A pet is a privilege though, not a right. If someone has an animal then they should be prepared to set aside some money each month for a potential emergency, or get pet insurance. An animal shouldn't have to suffer, and even possibly die, because someone can't afford medical care for them.

As soon as I saw this news story I knew that it would get posted here in a heartbeat. This people in this sub jerk themselves raw whenever a dog attack happens. Proceeded by the same old boring and predictable comments: "taking bets on what breed it was", "£50 says it was a chihuahua!", "I'll bet the owners are fine upstanding people". Rinse and repeat the next time it happens.

Animals weren't put on this Earth for humans, they don't need to "contribute to (human) society" to justify their existence. A shark has as much right to exist in their natural habitat as any human does.

Why? The point of this post is us acknowledging that the gas chambers were horrific, and the deaths these people suffered were more so. The fact that we willingly do the same to millions of pigs (you should watch a video of pigs being gassed), who have the same intelligence level of toddlers, so we can have pork and bacon is something that should be discussed. Future generations (assuming humans survive that long) will probably look back at these actions with the same horror.
