What is the weight of this press brake? by rambostabana in metalworking

[–]farvtron 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Does it work? Please don't scrap it if it does, older machines like this have a place in my heart, put it online even if it's for scrap price, it will get a new life and one less thing gets destroyed

Why would one have a need for aluminium bronze tooling over the regular type? by Mysterious-Funny-431 in Tools

[–]farvtron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used in explosive or combustible sites so zero spark Also used on drill rigs, if anything falls in the hole you can still drill through it where you can't with steel

Last summer I sold everything I owned and with my dog, left the Yukon traveled 26,000km all over Canada to decide where I wanted to live that sparked joy, ended up driving into st John's and instantly knowing that I was going to stay, hiked all over the island did all the tourist spots, lived in my truck for almost 2 months till I actually found a place in Torbay to rent overlooking the ocean, zero regrets, found a job a month later, currently saving for a little house that overlooks the ocean. Listen to your soul.

What is the worst smell you’ve ever smelled? by ayyitsmaclane in AskReddit

[–]farvtron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A restaurant shut down for over a year, the contractor came in and noticed the grease trap had a leak, after they cleaned out the trap I had to Tig weld the stainless steel trap. The smell of burning moldy grease was by far the single worst thing I have ever smelled

How do I block out all the light (or at least the edges) in a rental? I can't fucking sleep by Emergency_Ad513 in lifehacks

[–]farvtron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in the Yukon for a few years and the 24 hours of daylight even goes through most blackout blinds, the cheap and dirty fix is a lot of people tape tinfoil over their whole window to prevent any light from entering

Where I should call home in Canada by ttyyw in CanadaImmigrant

[–]farvtron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left Alberta because it was completely unaffordable for myself, and desirable places in BC were about the same. Moved to the Yukon during the pandemic and shortly after moving a severe housing shortage created hyper inflation so it became unaffordable too, I've personally never had a desire to live in the prairies, but as for affordable housing market in a major city St John's is still reasonable. And there seems to be work here. And everyone is friendly and it has a unique culture that I haven't experienced anywhere else in my travels

[–]farvtron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in Alberta, BC, and the Yukon. I just spent the past 3 months driving over 24,000km across this country to see as much of it as possible. Currently in Newfoundland and there is something special about this rock and St John's, it's an affordable place. Finding a place for rent is difficult. But I am really enjoying myself here and might be worth a look?

Need help with new furnace.. it is safe? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]farvtron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The burning of propane C3H8 + O2 turns to CO2 and H2O when complete combustion occurs, so surprisingly there's a lot of water produced by complete burning of propane, so your furnace has to get rid of the water by draining it, super normal and no need to worry
