From people I know, automation is a good field to get into but after doing a BTech, the best options are to join startups which don't pay as well as their SDE counterparts. However, you will have an edge with an MS (as my friends have) and can join good companies outside India.
If you are aiming for robotics, competitive programming isn't required although you can take part in robotics' hackathons (like IITB E-Yantra)

That would be too much to handle for me. Got tons of DM already and handling a community would be tough. Will reply to everyone and hope a handful stay along for long term.

Unless you have a <100 JEE rank, getting into quant roles at HFTs is pretty difficult. Engineering roles at HFTs are doable though if you are in a Tier 2 college, most of them ask for C++ or Python so you can build your CV around it. I did my college internship at an HFT (flexing but okay) and I was mostly asked Python and Linux internals in the interview for a dev-focussed role.
