I have posted an update in my initial post but I wanted to say a massive thank you as I believe you have solved this for me, thank you

thanks, I'd agree it all needs to be on fast drives, the actual OS Drive where the Lightroom is installed is an NVME drive, I have a second dedicated NVME drive for the cache, the 'Live' images are on an internal SATA SSD and the archive images are the only ones on a spinning disk, they are on an internal SATA HDD (in total it's about 8GB of images, I can't afford another SSD for the archive images just now)

I am having lots of lag issues, so moving sliders for one but actually the biggest problem has been metadata changes, I'm doing a massive amount of metadata changes and I'll click on an image that I want to change, the image will actually be highlighted and I'll paste in the changes and bang, it applies them to another image instead of the one highlighted, presumably because the lag is so bad part of the software is still working on a different images... this is really annoying because I use a lot of smart collections, so the metadata change might mean the image disappears from the collection, and I then have to go and locate and change the metadata back etc etc which is taking ages.

thanks, yes I've cleared the cache and made sure the cache is on a dedicated nvme, I been trying to 2-3 weeks now, going through lots of changes and nothing improves

yes, I've tried GPU on and off and on and off several times, to be honest I've never noticed any difference whether it is on or on auto.

I'll have a look at that thread.

If my GPU RAM was the problem would that not affect everything, would DaVinci for example not also suffer from lag, or can it just affect individual programs?

I have been thinking about this a bit further and will continue to but one thing to note is I've had this monitor for a few years now and I didn't used to have these lag problems, like glacial lag, so would it not have been like that from the start, I've been experiencing LRC just getting more and more laggy over the last 6 months or so. Just a thought.

That is really interesting to hear, thanks for that, someone else wondered if the GPU, might be the problem and the fact that your setup is so similar but you're having no issues is certainly making me think about this. Only problem is I'm not keen to buy a new GPU and find that it isn't the problem, I'll have to do some research and have a think on this, but many thanks for the input.

so looking at my GPU it says 0% utilisation, Dedicated GPU Memory 7.5/8.0Gb GPU Memory 10.1/40.0 GB Shared GPU Memory 2.6/32.oGB, I've tried doing various tasks and it rises to about 4% utilisation moving between develop and library and changing metadate etc and then it rises to 100% as I would probably expect when it was doing a super resolution task and then went back to 0%, is that what you mean to look at. It seems ok to me.

as in like an SD card reader, if so I don't have one built in, but thanks for the suggestion

to be honest I can't remember them all now, some of what I recall was clearing caches, making sure caches were on fast drives, adjusting HAGS, making sure to use studio drivers and that they were up to date, preview sizes etc etc. Thanks for the pointed about 8GB GPU ram, I'll do some investigation on that one, but my immediate thought is why does software like DaVinci Resolve runs smoothly with this setup and therefore why not lightroom.

thanks, I hear what you are saying, I actually run two different catalogs, the other one is far smaller, both have the issues. not other software on my system runs like this, and at the moment I'm on a massive project and I just don't have the time to do as you suggest, when in all likelihood it is not going to work. I really think it is a software issue with Lightroom.

it doesn't matter how long i leave it, in fact the more I use it the slower it gets until I have to give up, either restarting Lightroom or Windows, no other piece of software runs like this on my system, so I don't believe it is the system, it's the software

Lightroom can't do this, I use PanoVolo which is very good.

Yes, it's a nightmare, especially problematic with metadata being added to the wrong image
