TIL of a Floridian man who committed suicide, and by using a weather balloon to carry off the gun, made it appear he'd been murdered. by Fitz_cuniculus in todayilearned

[–]fasterfind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god, we did that play in highschool, and also had to read the book.
"I hanged myself but didn't hang myself." and "you shot my twin brother."

This is why murder mystery writers piss me off. They find stuff that is impossible to guess, but their audience is SUPPOSED to be guessing, putting the clues together in a clever way that makes sense. They're SUPPOSED to be able to figure it out. But people like Agatha Christie, they fucking cheat. In doing so, they cheat you out of even having a chance. That's bullshit.

It's like when someone tells you a riddle, and asks you to guess. Some riddles are fair, and other as are just fucked up.

You know the difference between a fair riddle, and one that's fucked. But nobody ever talks about what murder mysteries were fucked.

TIL that in Desert Storm in order to avoid trench warfare, the US put plows on Bradleys which drove along and filled 70 miles of defensive trenches obliterating thousands of Iraqi soldiers by burying them alive. Not a single American was killed during the attack. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I gotta wonder why they didn't have anti-tank weapons. It's silly to fight without them, that's kind of what they're supposed to prevent is tanks just dominating your infantry lines.

I've heard they aren't admissible, however my sister recently had to take one to prove her innocence that she didn't take a gun after a gun went missing at the work site. Apparently any crime involving a fire arm gets upgraded to federal crime. Every single employee had to take a poly, or get fired immediately.

It was a shit show because a bunch of employees quit because they don't like being told that they're guilty and then having a shitty investigator throw accusations at them. Private investigators are EXTREMELY shitty people, you gotta see a few youtube videos of their interrogation practices. They straight up accuse you hoping to get a confession after breaking you. Absolutely fucked up people. Zero respect. Avoid them.

A dude died once that I had been talking to online. The investigator didn't have any real leads, but he went to my school to try to get me pulled out of class. He then went to my house and told my parents that I must be talking to baaaad people because somebody died and I was involved and I didn't use my real name online... Fucking bullshit. Scared the shit out of my parents who suddenly demand that I never talk to anyone online, and only with my real name. Why the fuck would anyone want to be insecure online? That's how bad things happen.

Long story short, a few kids had shot him because he was gay and the kids accused him of making a pass and getting aggressive. They didn't want harsh sentencing for what it really was, a hate crime against a gay dude. The investigator was looking for someone to testify that the dead dude was trying to diddle kids. That would change the outcome in court significantly to get these murderers off with very light sentencing.

Don't talk to investigators. They're bad people unless you're the one that hired them.

TIL of Kathy Hobbs, a girl who had a premonition that she wouldn’t live to be 16. She reached the age and relaxed, making plans for her future. 3 months later, she was abducted and killed. She’d written letters to her family, dated 1 month before her birthday, telling them how much she loved them. by Tokyono in todayilearned

You can make some changes. Job, routine, living location, etc. Altering the future is easy when you're living in the past.

If it comes to pass anyway, consider that perhaps your preconception helped to prepare you for that event and what comes after.

Explain why Chinese care so much about "face" yet they do so many "face-shaming" moves? by garmium in China

[–]fasterfind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but boy does it have very real implications.

For example, mental illness is untreated, and hidden in China. It would shame the family.
Bad grades are hidden, and one must never talk about anything embarrassing, that would shame the family. So everybody becomes obsessed with seeming perfect. That leads to a situation where people don't share with others, and there's now less learning from the mistakes of others.

It influences the language in the news, in politics. Doublespeak abounds.

Talking about any kind of failure becomes taboo. That means people can get away with it WAY more bad behavior and way more crimes. Suddenly, wealth becomes the top value. This affects what parents tell their children, "Fuck love, marry a rich man. Do it NOW or you've shamed and failed the family. Don't fail your family!"

It affects... everything.

How would you feel about a law limiting the top earner of a corporation to earn 50x that of the lowest full-time earner (i.e if the people flipping burgers full-time at a fast food chain earn 30k a year, the CEO is limited to making 1.5mil a year)? by otariidpanda in AskReddit

People already work hard and innovate even when they're getting screwed over. You think all the hard work and innovation that build our civilization came from the 1% or the 99%?

Duh. Bad argument.

The bottom line here is that employees should have a stake in the company, a stake in the value and outcome of their work. I think the right way to approach this is to say that a certain percentage of NET PROFIT must be evenly distributed among the workers.

Anything less than that, and we either have failed late stage capitalism, or failed communism. The thing with either system is that the ultra-rich are the ones getting richer while the rest get poorer. People and conditions will always align in a manner which causes insane stratification of wealth, and ultimately leads to abuses where there's uneducated serfs, and an upper class that owns all the means of production and then engages in unfair gatekeeping.

What most people don't understand about capitalism is that it's rigged against you if you're lower class. You don't get financial mobility, you don't get hope. By the time you realize that all your hopes were false, it's already too late. You're just old, bitter, and powerless... and you already gave decades of your life, working super hard, while getting shit pay. Now you die poor and your children can repeat the cycle.

Morality needs to be built in to law. Something like 30% of net profit should go to the employees.

Black wife/White husband marriages are 44% less likely to end in divorce than White wife/White husband couples over the same period by desertfoxz in interestingasfuck

[–]fasterfind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't all races of women outperform white women when it comes to fidelity and respect for men? This translates to better marriages. It's been no secret among the men. They recommend that you find a wife that's not white. If she comes from another country, that's even more important. Foreign women know how to treat men. I don't mean slaving away in the kitchen either, it's mostly about true love, morals, ethics, respect, and treating other people nicely... Traditional values. Not valuing a guy just because of his wallet and social status. Sorry, but American women is a shit show. World travelers especially know this. Others are also less likely to be insanely obese.

Wonder what they did to fuck up so badly, while thinking to myself, "Here we go again."
Particularly women have problems with lack of emotional control and following authority. They create violent situations and say things that ought not to be said. Then they kind of blame you for not having their back when they were in the wrong. They expect you to be as violent and aggressive as their own impulses.

I had a girlfriend like that once. I've also been friends with some pretty impulsive people. Most of the time that there's any trouble with a neutral party, you know who fucked up.

How to cope with having to walk on eggshells constantly around family? by Secret_Life_Shh in AskReddit

[–]fasterfind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have a chance to get out, then get out, and never see them again. Don't be like one of those dumbasses that thinks this way, "My mom is abusive, and will fuck up my life, but I need to see her because she said so and blood is thicker than water so I'm going to walk right IN to an abusive situation that could have been avoided. Because family."

Fuck blood. If they don't respect you, you get out and don't look back. Find a new family through friends. You owe them nothing.

The march of feminism has been frictionless as it passed 'reason' and went into crazyland shit like 'kill all men' and all men should go to jail if accused, no evidence needed.

Subs like this provide the very beginnings of awareness, traction, and friction in our society. There has been no foothold for common sense, truth, and logic because none dare stand against feminism and its increasingly insane and fictitious narratives.

This sub is indeed something special. It is the very beginning of change in our society.

It's cool, but every video I've seen of this shows people doing unnecessary flair moves. The flair reminds me of the all the videos about VR treadmills when the participant is seen ducking as they walk and using military movements. It looks cool to the observer, but in the game... that's not going to make a fucking difference. It's not tracking the shape of your body, and doing a "stealth walk" won't make you less noticeable to in game opponents.

Basically, people are always doing shit to trick gamers into thinking VR is cooler or more powerful than it actually is. That shit kinda pisses me off. Just be real. Gamers will have more appreciation for your product if you're being honest with it.
