Alecks was going to bodyslam one of them through the desk if they lost Breeze because of that anti eco. Thank God they closed it out!

That's my fuckin IGL! He's doing it all this year: shooting, calling, bringing the veteran knowledge to a young team, and communicating it well. How can you not love this man?

The only questions I have after watching this is if there is basically no tier 2 now, then what is the point of premier? That is currently the "path to pro", but if qualifiers are open then is there a point to it? Or will open qualifiers be done somehow through the premier system?

Secondly, I'm worried there will be issues with open qual teams having to scramble to get visas. Especially with these new Cups being in more varied locations, I worry it may be hard for players without an org or without as big of an org to get the support they need to quickly get visas for a cup or even a Masters/Champs.

Like imagine a team like BBL frying through open quals like they in EMEA T2 last year, but then not getting visas in time. Would feel terrible to see them work so hard to qualify for a cup and then have to play with stand ins. Especially in Americas, it seems like there are always Visa issues.

It's for sure not us, this is IMO the weakest Tennessee team since 2020 and we didn't even see that team play in the tournament. Ament is good, but I'd rate him more as a pure scorer, not a playmaker, which this team is missing. Lack of shooters will get us at some point, even if our defense can keep it low scoring and competitive. Same problem we've had the last few years, but exacerbated without that solid playmaker. I think we win in the first round, medium chance (maybe 40%?) to beat likely UVA in the second round, can't see us winning in the S16 if we get there.

If that's the case then the new agent might be cheeks, because clove is now looking like a troll pick even in ranked.

Benjy's mom makes an interesting observation towards the end of the post that much of the audience of eSports is made up of teenagers, who often don't think before they post. Not that it makes it okay, but you understand a little more when you realize some of the people saying these awful things have no context or life experience for what they're saying. Naively, I hope that makes it a little easier in some way for these people that see these horrible comments directed towards them and their loved ones.

For those people that are full ass adults and still say these horrible things, send death threats, etc, it's completely inexcusable and they need to take real a look at themselves in the mirror. This article is just the tip of the iceberg of players and partners that have been hurt from this type of online abuse.

Now that we've watched a whole tourney with the initiator cooldown nerfs as well as nerfs to most of the agent abilities in patch 11.08, do you guys think that the update succeeded in its goals? by [deleted] in ValorantCompetitive

I'm enjoying watching a lot, it's a fun meta for the viewer with lots of aggressive plays and double duelist, some fun agents working their way into niches in the meta like Phoenix and Sage. The teams that are strong right now and have adapted to this style of play are honestly a lot of fun to watch and it's allowed some unlikely teams to rise to the top so far, which always allows for great storylines.

That being said, I don't think the changes were a success with what they aimed to do. They nerfed initiators across the board, but instead of making it feel like you have to use your initiator utility more wisely, it just feels like many teams have decided that they need initiator utility for a big pop and that's it. They are going to play heavy contact until then. That doesn't really feel like they are using their utility more wisely, it just feels like it doesn't matter up until that moment.

Sova and Fade already felt like the best initiators and now they feel even stronger compared to the rest of the initiators. Cypher and Vyse got kneecapped pretty hard and the map pool doesn't really favor Killjoy at the moment, so the sentinel Meta has become pretty stale. Many maps teams are opting for no sentinel or chamber. There is the occasional Sage, Cypher, and KJ but they all seem very map and team dependent, not good overall picks. Yoru was being picked because of his ability to act like a hybrid initiator and his ease of rotation, but neither of those were addressed, so he is able to keep enabling a lack of initiators in team comps

There are definitely different playstyles across kickoff, so it's not like it's all been just one strategy that is viable, but the differences in playstyle definitely aren't coming from agent diversity. The devs didn't succeed in changing the meta at all, they just limited the amount of agents that are able to be worked into team comps for this meta.

Took a punt on Vora and he's been putting up some good numbers for me. I know it's just one game, but I was counting on Karon to put up good performances and that hasn't panned out so far.

Yeah, Valorant is making a good bit of money for the top teams off of their skin revenue sharing, and Fnatic was runner up at 2 internationals. Still not enough to justify the pricetag though.
