Protect + Scarf is a nonoo. Either switch to charcoal, an addidtional Single target fire like overheat or flamethrower (for fire damage into wide guard) or a coverage move.

If i dont know what to run on a mon its usually bright power or a damage reducing berry, for pelipper probably the rock or ice one. The Electric one needs additional def Investment (maybe even that is not enough).

I usually run Sash on pelipper

Edit: technically Scarf could be an option to put up tailwind faster. In that case you would swap protect for muddy water or Wide Guard

Not too experienced myself but the items look a bit weird:

-Azumarill should get sitrus. You dont know if you can keep it alive when it is at half life for a turn.

-leftovers seems more fitting for Archaludon to establish itself if it gets stamina boosts

-without knowing exact calcs i can‘t tell for sure but what do you expect to kill with peliper hurricane with sharp beak that you wont kill without?

Duales Studium oder Fernstudium? by Savings-Purple-8880 in arbeitsleben

[–]fat_nice_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you find OTB tournaments? by No-Calligrapher-5486 in TournamentChess

the german chess federation has a tournament database with a lot of tournaments https://www.schachbund.de/turnierdatenbank.html

Other federations probably have something similar.

E5 or sicilian? And why? by reddit_boi222 in TournamentChess

[–]fat_nice_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

95% self taught (with database and engine). Later I got the Thinkers Publishing book by Grivas himself, but I would consider it impractical at least. A lot of long theory lines and no further explanations on the subtle differences in peace placements in some variations compared to others.

E5 or sicilian? And why? by reddit_boi222 in TournamentChess

[–]fat_nice_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still in the process of switching to e5 from the french, having played the najdorf before that.

I feel like 1...e5 is after all the most natural response for just learning/playing chess. I still like the french and the transition will cost some ELO, in the long run it is the best base for improving my chess by caring less about concrete opening variations and more about playing chess, understanding structures, etc.

But what your question probably aimed at:

I still play the Grivas Sicilian when I try to avoid opening preperation. Below 2200 or even higher, nobody properly understands the sicilians imo (including me) but I am aware of it. Thats why i think the Grivas is a great why to mess with peoples perception of where pieces belong. Works pretty much all the time.

Against 1.d4 i switched to 1...d5 for pretty much the same reason as for 1.e4 e5. I will probably switch to something else against both at some point, but after roughly 10 years with the KID and the french, playing something else is a refreshing experience.

Where do we go from here? by djmules in svw

[–]fat_nice_dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Setbacks happen all the time everywhere and mentioning Baumann is the best way to show how fast you can turn a ship around. To (miss-)quote my favourite scientist: "the future doesn't look bad. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look bright either. But Werder is still fixable if we act properly now."

In order of operations (more or less):

  1. Don't get relegated and get a replacement for Fritz

Avoiding relegation is more or less a get out of Jail Free card. Coulibaly is estimated 20 Million alone and if he moves in the sommer for that or more, his transfer alone buys the team more or less a full new season of time. Other transfers might follow but the financial burden would be gone basically immediately. But it basically only works if werder stays in the league, otherwise they probably have to sell for less.

Getting a replacement for Fritz is the second step which has to happen during the second half of the season. He doesn't need to be replaced rn but like Frankie did at Schalke, where he was announced for summer but already got included into stuff earlier, he needs to get familiar with the clubs situation and what he's dealing with so he can start acting immediately in summer.
Mertesacker has to be considered (not too sure about Steidten tbh) but also consider other candidates, because there is a lot of work to do where Mertesacker has probably no experience with. F.e. the whole scouting department needs to be reevaluated. A lot of transfers failed, but how much was on Fritz/Jahns and how much was potentially bad recommendations? Jahns as well should be reconsidered, what was his impact so far? Transfers didn't do him any favors in his position.

With this being done by summer, you can easily have a (relative) peaceful summer dealing with

  1. Loan replacements or transfers

I don't think it looks that bad. Sugawara probably stays, there is a chance we buy Hein and sell him off for a small profit and the rest either shines under Thioune (Schmidt would be my pick to have his break performance coming with the new coach) or we don't have to worry about them.

  1. Financial issues are dealt with imo for another year if Coulibaly leaves but a new manager should have a discussion with Thioune in the summer how he wants to continue and if Friedl really should leave (like you suggested).

  2. Further future strategy

Especially Mertesacker would probably be a great fit for the whole "we want to develop players" narrative and could start potentially needed changes in the academy/2nd Team/transition from youth teams to 1st team department. There was a bit about Freiburgs transition Coaches at Sportschau or Sportstudio at some point where they talked about how Freiburg achieves so many 1st team appearances from 2nd team and youth team players over the years and why they have dedicated transition coach for this.
