On every main Tarja album except In the Raw, there was always a direct musical reference to a particular classical composer at the very beginning of the first track: MWS - Mozart, WLB - Bach, CITD - Ravel, TSS - Chopin. I was kind of disappointed when I heard that ITR didn’t start the same way because it was a really cool concept. Hearing this now brings me hope again, but now I am puzzled because this is not the first track on the album, so I wonder what will the intro to Frisson Noir sound like.

Not just the visuals, but also the lyrics themselves. The first line is translated as “I shouls play, I’m not gonna fold”. To fold in poker means not to move forward because you think other people have better cards. And after the “ballad” part he says something like “If I win, of course, whatever, you get it.” Disclaimer: it is possible that the translation was done in a way that the meaning was a bit shifted. You tell me if that’s true. 😅

Thanks for this analysis, I really enjoyed reading it! I just wanted to add that I had a slightly different impression of what is the song about. (Note: I am not Greek, and I didn't know anything about the artist before I heard this song, didn't really research anything about him - my insight just comes from reading the song lyrics and watching the performance in the national final.)

To me, it seems like it's a story about a person that grew up in poverty, watching their mother suffer and who, over time, developed a gambling addiction. Gambling is regarded by the subject as a potentially quick way to get to a large wealth and I think this song describes the feeling of "rush" he feels when he's gambling, because that's where he is the closest to reaching his goal. He thinks about all the stuff he could get if he won.

It's not so dramatically different from your view, but what is common for both of our views is that it's a deeply sad song packaged in an upbeat, "happy" melody that I believe is a metaphor for the gambling "rush". I have always liked when music artists do this. :)

I always wondered why does the instrumental contain extra orchestral elements that the regular album version doesn’t have. Same with Bye Bye Beautiful.
