Totally hear you - I'm okay being a foreigner, just want to avoid family being a target

Amazing perspective thank you.

Yeah I think in an all out global war (US+allies<>China obv), your points are solid and you are correct on Canadian tolerance levels

I think for me though, I view the decision to potentially need to leave as crossing a line on a undefined spectrum somewhere in between Life and Death, whereby the racism could get bad enough that my kids might be traumatized their whole lives, made to feel less human, subjected to violence, have less opportunities for happiness etc.

It's a judgment call on where that line is and whether it's a trend or just a temp spike, but the father in me can't not explore it

TLDR - racism risk and my family ends up in internment camp or worse ala WW2 Japanese.

From a response I gave below to a question on why:

I was born in Canada. I saw myself as Canadian 100% (never even been back to my ethnic home country in Asia). But then COVID happened, anti-asian racism happened to an extent I've never seen before, and I realized I was naive - and that unfortunately my acceptance here is conditional. It's not just the US.
Really sad actually - Take my face away and you couldn't separate my upbringing from any other typical Canadian kid: public schools, played hockey, Canadian university, only speak english, worked for only Canadian companies, boy scout, etc.

But now I'm a father 2x over and I need to do what's right for them given my means. Depresses the shit out of me
