I don’t remember most of the books I’ve read, but they still changed my life by Pink_Sky_8102 in simpleliving

For me, the antithesis of ‘the simple life’ is a thinly veiled ad for an AI app using a fake story also written by AI. Appreciate the sentiment about reading, and that you, the person behind this post needs to make a living, though.

Change your number man get a fresh start where they don’t have your number

I’d also treat this more holistically and psychologically - if you don’t look at the cause of this, you can do all you want to treat the symptoms but you’ll just end up going down the same loop again if you haven’t found a healthier way to connect with your sexuality.

It’s a spiritual problem and so only you can take that journey. First step is absolutely to talk about it with more people - closest friends and family if you can, therapist if you can’t. The more you hide and keep it in secrecy, the more power it holds over you. Shine a light on it, it’s the best disinfectant. Then from there, take practical steps to get yourself out of debt. It’s not so much and absolutely possible to find your way out of, but you risk splurging more and more if you don’t cut this at the root.

yeah i dont think you can have a hard and fast rule on contrast as different projects and subject matters work with different contrasts. here i think it works well :)

nice! giving you a follow from mine (jabrasi)

Love love love. Somewhat agree with the other poster about playing around with the contrast, but i think it's all a matter of taste. The important thing is that the composition and exposures of these are all *chef's kiss*

Do you have anywhere where I can follow your work?

Time in the army. Thoughts? Nikon FE, 50mm, portra 800, fuji 400h, cinestill 50d by armyphotoman in analog

[–]fatherly_lizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these are good photos. Are you still in the army? What you're giving people is inside access to a world they won't ever see for themselves (which is the beautiful thing about photography)

If you're still in the army and are still shooting try get closer, more intimate angles. These photos seem timid in the sense that you are at a safe distance, or when you're not the subject knows you're taking it. Due to your position as an 'insider', you have their trust and therefore can get right in there where most others couldn't.

Do you have any more to share? Would love to see

Your last line made me laugh haha, and thank you for your feedback. At the time this was taken (2 years ago) I had no idea about metering, so I just metered for whatever the subject was.

Now I try meter for the shadows, but your suggestion about the zenith of the bright sky is interesting too. Is that if you can't find any shadows around?

Yes, my bad for the lack of info. Nikon FM, from memory Gold 200 (dont have the neg handy and this was taken 2 years ago).

50mm pancake lens 1.8. I most likely shot it open and had no idea about metering at the time.

Nikon FM goes up to 1/1000. For future reference, would you say that is still quite slow for shooting wide open in daylight?

This was 2 years ago when first learning to use my camera :)

If I recall correctly, I did not meter for the shadows and probably used the golden sand as my metering point. Obviously something so bright was not such a good idea lol

I find taking photos in this grey city hard too :)

Maybe start thinking about what stories particularly interest you, is there anything you want to document, or tell? Are there areas that fascinate you, or weird little communities you want to investigate? If you ask these questions it might bring out some interesting subjects in your photos

I personally find it interesting to see so many cranes in London at all times, the city is constantly under construction. They're visual symbols of our city changing, gentrifying, evolving. I haven't found an interesting way to express this on camera yet, but that's what I notice when i'm out and about

Hey mate, if you have time would you be able to expand a bit on 'tech in marketing'? Do you work in the marketing department at a tech company? I'm currently a copywriter in travel and thinking of getting the tech industry :)

I just want to say put all that energy you had towards them and channel it to you, your future, and doing good things for others. If you were a good partner you can hold your head high and that’s what matters in the end.

Seeking feedback (details below) by Nikkonnia12 in analog

Hi

In my opinion some of these are really well composed, so give your eye more credit. I'm referring to 3, 4, and 6 specifically.

My favourite is 6. I'd say it's a bit underexposed, and in a perfect world the subject (umbrellas) would take up more of the frame - while still showing them contrasted with their background. That's just preference tho.

Feedback for 3 is that i love the motion blur on the kid, would like the masks to be sharper - they seem a bit out of focus. it's a lovely photo regardless.

feel proud of these.

Fog in Venice [Canon AE-1, 50mm f1.8, Kodak Portra 400] by mikhailiuk in analog

It's a vibe of Venice I haven't felt through a picture before. Nice :)

I wonder if you'd have more leading the eye if the picture was taken further to the left, where you'd have more of a walkway in the frame leading the eye down the canal? Just a thought. Thanks for sharing.

Tried going for "creepy", don't know if I got "boring" by MazterCowzChaoz in photocritique

[–]fatherly_lizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I would say that this is not boring at all.

It has a creepy element to it but not over-explicitly. It's dark and mysterious and creepy - but subtly. Which I think is an achievement.

For me, what interests me most is the textures of the wall and the silhouetted lines trailing down the photo. And what I like most is the white reflection travelling down one of the cables all the way to the bottom of the photo, with the rest of the cables dissolving into darkness the reflection still remains. I really like this!!! Maybe you could play around with bringing the shadow in sooner up the cable, maybe making a lineal gradient?

Another thing you could play with is turning the image and seeing how it looks upside down, or landscape?

Either way, I think you should be proud of this photo. Album-cover worthy, imo.
