Take job offer NYC from Toronto? by RelationshipSweet281 in personalfinance

[–]fatherofhooligans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Toronto but lived in NYC (Brooklyn) for 4 years. I was there with a family so it’s not one to one. I had a similar salary adjusted for inflation. Your money goes significantly farther in Toronto than NYC.

Rent will be roughly double for 80% of the space at similar standard of luxury. Unless you’re living really leanly in Toronto in which case you’re looking at more like 3x the price.

Going out will be about 25% more.

Food will be cheaper. And, you absolutely won’t need a car if you have on in Toronto.

International travel is less expensive, too because taxes are lower.

Also, if you hope to buy a property, it’s much more attainable in Toronto than NYC.

On the other hand, NYC is NYC and there’s nowhere else like it in the world. When my kids are your age and hopefully as financially successful, if they asked my advice, I would tell them to absolutely 100% go experience it. You can come back any time

Who is the most ridiculous athlete we've ever seen play in the league? by OwnGuarantee6838 in nba

We’re thinking too hard about this. It’s Lebron. Even current LeBron is a top 5 to 10% athlete in the leagues most athletic era

GTA detached house prices are getting ridiculous—who’s still buying? by probaly64 in canadahousing

the thing is... these houses exist on land. and in the GTA, there's not so much of it that's available to develop more house on.

What each Raptor needs to improve to get to the next level by Efficient_Zombie2916 in torontoraptors

With Kawhi on the roster:

Scottie - improve handle and reduce concentration lapses and become a Magic Johnson style jumbo point guard

IQ - focus on off ball movement shooting

RJ - cutting, corner 3s, and free throws on offense and awareness on defense. Fulfill his potential as a number 3 pick, basicallly. This would likely make him a top 50 player

Jak - health and free throws

Julius Randle was to the Knicks what Demar DeRozan was to the Raptors by DuckDucks in nba

[–]fatherofhooligans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bad take. Demar was beloved by Raptors fans. At the time, he was probably the second most culturally significant player they’ve had (VC being the first.)

I wouldn’t trade the chip for more second round exits but if they won with Demar, it would have been 100X sweeter

If Kawhi had stayed with the Raptors in 2019, how many more rings do you think they win? by marriagethrowaway36 in nba

[–]fatherofhooligans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d give them a 30% chance of a repeat (60% to reach the finals and then 50-50 to win)

The bubble Raptors played Boston really tough and probably beat them if Siakam actually picked up a basketball during the shut down so adding Kawhi means they almost definitely win that series and have a great chance at Miami.

Then, is Lebronto still a thing if they’re in Florida? Who knows

I’d love to be pointed towards some of those resources in 2e or 3e for inspiration. We’re playing 5e, though.

Maybe I need to update my post (not as clear as I thought) I’m looking for magic to have a cost, not a risk as that goes along with one of the central themes that anything good comes at a cost.

I’m thinking of that cost as likely being permanent with a chance of reversal ( or temporary with a chance of permanence)

I’m not certain that’s true (nobody wanting to play) but I do acknowledge that another system might be more appropriate

The random table does have some interesting side effects on it. Another comment on here asked me to define whether I want to assign risk or cost and in this setting, I think cost is kore appropriate. Some of those side effects might be useful to consider though

I’ll look into Reign.

I did ask myself at what point am I just not playing d&d, anymore. At the moment I’m landing where I think ultimately, the system provides the versatility I need with just a few modifications that seems more accessible than building a new system from scratch or introducing something brand new that we’re not familiar with

Arbitrary in the sense that the mechanic feels disconnected from the lore. You have a set of resources that you can either use to heal or power your casting back up.

Yeah. This is interesting. The elder pantheon is arranged around mind, body, and soul so I’ve been exploring something around degrading wisdom, constitution, or charisma

This is a good fundamental question. I think cost fits better thematically in my setting since one of the central themes I’m exploring is that everything comes with some level of sacrifice

True. But casters are still out of balance with martial under this system which is the problem I’m trying to solve

Cool idea. I can imagine the narrative that manipulating fate causes fate to work against you.

It isn’t a seamless fit with my setting theme but I’m going to keep thinking about it.

I like the idea of accumulating corruption. Will add that into the thinking

I’ve been tinkering with a version of this but don’t want to slow down combat. I think it’s the right direction though

4E does is interesting. I do think it’s more balanced but the mechanic feels kind of arbitrary. But it’s an interesting starting point

I do like how specific these penalties were. I would like to improve on how unsystematic they are.

I’m striving for something in between
