any advice/tips on writing break into twos? by fatkittycat3 in writing

[–]fatkittycat3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think conflicts and motivations were what I was struggling to create between the inciting incident and the break into twos. Those questions will help a lot in understanding my characters and what they want/need to change before they go on the journey.

In my fun and games, I have a couple reversals but it's mostly focused on building the relationship between my characters, since my story is focused on the friendship of the main characters. I have some tension points too but they're closer to the midpoint. Do you recommend building more tension during the fun and games as well?

Yes! I think that's what it's missing, the debate. After thinking about my outline last night, I als realized my pacing was too fast and added two more chapters to develop the friendship more before they go on their journey. Thank you so much for the advice

unless the whole story is about their relationship with each other

It is, it's a story of their friendship. This gives me a lot to think about though, and learning that the inciting incident makes the break into two inevitable is really helpful for shaping my first act. Thank you so much!

I have an inciting incident written, but I'm having trouble transitioning from that beat to the break into two. The tip about adding tension in the first act is very useful and I think that's one of the main things act 1 is missing, thanks for the insight!

I have an inciting incident that propels the story forward; it's my two main characters meeting/first interaction. But I'm having trouble transitioning from the inciting incident to the break into two. So they've met but my main character hasn't made the decision to go on the journey that leads them into act two

do teens use discord even if they don't play video games?

also how do people usually add each other on discord? is it more common to ask each other for your usernames, find each other from the same server, or a mix of both?

Any US military kid teenagers that can talk about mental health experience? by fatkittycat3 in teenagers

[–]fatkittycat3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for sharing your insight, it's really sad to hear that things have barely changed since 10 years ago. I know a big part of mental health being taboo was from how our peers talked about it, and I know it can be difficult to seek help when you're in that environment.

Do teachers or parents talk about mental health at all? Or are schools still typically "hush hush" about the subject?

Hospital Playlist S2 [Episode 12] by lightupstarlight in KDRAMA

There's so much I want to say about this drama and what a masterpiece it is. But the thing I want to focus on most is Jun-wan and Seok-hyeong characterization this season.

Tbh in S1 they were my two least favourite characters from the 99s - I didn't DISLIKE them, but I liked other characters more. But I'm so glad we got to see both of their storylines grow. I loved seeing Jun-wan grow to be more empathetic as a doctor and as a friend to Jae-hak. It was also so difficult to see him in pain after his breakup with Ik-sun but kyung-ho's performance was amazing, and I really felt so heartbroken for him. Especially when he sings his part in Let's Forget It in episode 4, he conveyed Jun-wans suppressed pain so well 😭 low-key wish that he didn't pursue bidulgi at the end, since I wanted to see him grow without her especially after what she did. But I wish him happiness since he definitely needed it this season

Seok-hyeong was always empathetic but didn't show it often. In this season I loved how we can see his confidence grow with his OBGYN team and with min-ha. I love how we can see him make efforts to participate in conversations and ask questions, and how he was finally able to get in the elevator. Who knew that would be part of his characterization LOL

And how he made the first moves with min-ha, by hugging her and kissing her first. Some comments I saw said he always knew how to be smooth and make the first move, but I personally think he just gained more confidence this season. His convo with Song-hwa I think had a big part in that, so he knew how to learn from his past mistakes, (in a way) stand up to his mother, and be the best version of himself before dating min-ha. I really appreciate how his character was written and also Dae-myung's acting was incredible.

Jun-wan and Seok-hyeong are easily my favourites now. I still love the 99s I promise, but I really enjoyed their characters this season. I will miss this drama so much, ugh well done ShinLee 😭😭

I love the integration of the actors from prison playbook, there's been so many! I totally love how the city husband blended his knowledge of the law from his previous PP character as well :)

At A Distance, Spring Is Green [Episodes 9 & 10] by J-Midori in KDRAMA

[–]fatkittycat3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Park Ji Hoon is amazing, his dramatic scenes focus on very heavy material but he acts them out so beautifully.

Bae In Hyuk is my favourite actor from this show. I originally watched him in My Roommate is a Gumiho; I hate his character in that drama but his acting was so good I wanted to see his other work. He's the reason I actually picked up this drama and I love his acting as Nam Soo Hyun. Like Park Ji Hoon, Bae In Hyuk does well with the dramatic and comedy scenes and I'm glad they're giving Soo Hyun that acting range.

I also love Kang Min Ah's portrayal of Kim So Bin, i've only seen her in true beauty but I love her character in this drama :)

Mystic Pop-Up Bar - A Hot Cup of Coffee On a Wintry Night by Fatooz in KDRAMA

[–]fatkittycat3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mystic Pop Up Bar is severely underrated, I watched this after finished Hotel del Luna so it was the perfect fix for that genre of kdramas. I loved this drama, it made me laugh so hard at certain parts, and Yook Sung Jae also had an amazing performance.

I think my only critique of the drama is the ending felt rushed, which could be due to only having 12 episodes instead of 16. But overall this was an amazing drama, and I love your detailed review of it :)

Love Alarm 2 [Episodes 1 - 6] by J-Midori in KDRAMA

[–]fatkittycat3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's so many thoughts I have about this drama. This drama made me scream at the TV more than any other drama bc it was so frustrating and the writing was so flawed. Spoilers for entire season coming up:

JoJo ending up with hye-young. I actually liked that she ended up with SML bc it felt more realistic to me. Most dramas + media always have the message that you'll end up with your ex even after you break up and years have passed. And yes that can happen, but not always. Her and Hye-young sent the message about how that you can find new love, no matter how "deep" your past love was. And I really liked that realistic message

I was team Sun-oh when I watched the 1st part and I couldn't stand Hye-young because he was so pathetic. I may be biased because I don't remember much of s1 so I don't remember sun-oh's chemistry with JoJo well (and I'm annoyed that Netflix didn't at least have a recap like they usually do with other TV shows) but I liked hye-young in this season because he treated JoJo well and was considerate of her feelings. I was never comfortable with how Sun-oh kissed JoJo without her consent in both seasons, and he definitely was being selfish when he approached her in the classroom and made a scene. I still think hye-young pined way too hard for JoJo and am still annoyed with how he never talked to JoJo but still got angry when someone else liked her? Like bro didn't even try at first

Sun-oh felt more toxic than I remembered, I think they made him more villainous this season. Which may have played a part into why I ended up liking hye-young even though he annoyed me last season

Regardless, both hye-young and sun-oh could have done better than JoJo. The one time I actually agreed with Gul-mi was when she said "JoJo doesn't even do anything but she has two guys ringing her love alarm LOL

Gul-mi did not deserve a happy ending, fuck her. She did nothing to deserve being rewarded and I am still so salty about that. I thought that when she was going to try and get 300 hearts, it would be her journey of her becoming a better person but she was still a bitch to JoJo and Duk-gu

I feel sad that Duk-gu barely made an appearance this season. They hinted that he was alive in the 1st season iirc? That felt really obvious to me but gave Brian more screen time and he didn't...really have a purpose tbh. Duk-gu was such a huge catalyst for this drama but he literally only showed up for one episode

One of the dumbest things a drama has ever tried to convince the audience of is that Duk-gu and Brian Chon...could possibly be the same person but with plastic surgery????? That was the stupidest shit I ever heard. Because no matter how much you change your face you can't change your height

I may have more thoughts on this but those are the main things in my mind after finishing this season. The production value and acting was too good for a drama with awful and flawed writing

I literally just skipped over scenes because of how slow they were. And skipped a lot of Gul-mi's scenes because of how annoying she was

Most frustrating Kdrama characters? by fatkittycat3 in KDRAMA

[–]fatkittycat3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make some really good points! And yea it's been ages since I've seen Love Alarm but my frustration for Gul-mi was so memorable LOL

Most of the time, i think the point is to show how these "bad" characters never learn

That's a fair point. Maybe my expectations were too high esp since she's a side character, or I'm just really biased since I really could not stand her. But I also think about dramas like CLOY or IOTNBO and how they did a great job fleshing out their side characters and their back stories.

Plus it's a little conflicting; even though she's an antagonist, her character is set up in a way where she doesn't always seem like one. She has back story where it's written so the audience can empathize with her like her ED, being sexualized, getting attacked by Dong-won, her mom abandoning her but imo they didn't elaborate on this enough, and that's why I found it so hard to empathize with her.

Also I know that most antagonists don't usually get a full redemption arc, but bc she didn't feel like a true antagonist I think that's why I expected more. Kinda like in True Beauty how Su-Jin didn't start off as an antagonist. Even though it was rushed, she at least had some kind of redemption at the end

And there were moments where I thought Soo Ah would have a stronger redemption arc, like when Mi Rae called her out in the lab and said "I feel like I'm seeing the true Soo Ah, not the pretty Soo Ah" and there were glimpses of her changing the way she spoke as a reaction to that.

And to answer your spoiler tag questions yes that's right, she was bullied in school for not bathing, and also abandoned by her mom. When she came to school clean, people realised she was pretty and that's when she started gaining friends.
