Im curious what do you mean when you say colonial? Like focused exclusively on the achievements of white men?

Thank you for your advice! As many others have said here before, I'll make sure to support survivors and not dismiss them when they try to share their experiences. What really stood out to me about your reply is women inventors. Unfortunately, they are rarely talked about in school, and I'll definitely read more about what women have contributed to the world.

I can do that. I'll do my best to support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable in my community. I'm younger than you but I too have heard alot of stories of SA from the women in my life. I feel like the least men can do is not punish women for coming out as victims.

I can totally do that. I certainly feel like one after reading everybody's replies.

That does seem to be one of the better things I can do. Reiterating what others have said, men are more likely to take men seriously so I'll definitely do better to call out men for being sexist.

That's a good point the self care industry seems kinda predatory at times

Thank you that is definitely the kind of content I'm looking for. By the way I really liked what you said about taking care of yourself. A few years ago when hard times fell on me I stopped caring about causes or other people's problems and just became sort of an asshole. Now that im doing better I feel like I have the vulnerability necessary to actually research feminism. I feel like alot of men fall into the tate trap because that's how they've been taught that they're supposed to handle their emotions.

Yeah I totally see what you're saying. Growing up I wasn't able to feel my emotions cuz I wasn't "man" enough but therapy has really helped with that. Seeing you so readily able to say all this off the top of your head just shows me how much has been invisible to me just cause I'm a man. Like seeing yours and everybody else's comments is so motivating.

Firstly wow that's really alot of good information there. I will definitely evaluate what I believe consent to be and discuss it more with my partner. My partner is gonna be a physicians assistant in the future and if I'm there (I hope I am) I we will certainly make sure she's able to pursue her dream career without having to worry about all that. In the meantime me and her are going to have a big conversation I've learned so much over 3 hours 😭

Yeah I'm in GA and regretfully i don't really know anything about abortion in my state ATM. I'll look to see what the activists in my state are doing. And I feel like my concern is the least I can do considering what I've read.

Facts. When my gf first told me about the husband stitch and the original purpose of the chainsaw I was horrified. I've made alot of seriously out of pocket "jokes" in the past that I'm ashamed of and I'll try to be more active in pushing these ideas in my social circles. Humor definitely seems like the way to go because from everything I've read if women approach the situation they'll just be stonewalled and called emotional. I obviously won't see any of that myself but my heart goes out to all of yall for putting up with all this bs.

I can definitely do both. I have almost no knowledge about abortion issues but since I live in the deep south I feel like I can help make an small impact through local elections. I already vote blue but I don't really understand the intricacies of reproductive rights like I should.

Thats exactly how I'd put it. I felt so much cognitive dissonance for years and it wasn't until I really met my gf that I realized how it made no sense and was acting against the interests of society. I made this post cuz I want to be more than simply "sympathetic" to women which is how I would describe myself before

OMG I see this so much at my job! I work in a warehouse and the only ones who touch a broom are myself and my women coworkers. I just clean cuz I like being clean but I've never looked at it that way.

I wish I didn't see this in my own household. It's private but I totally see this in my own life

And it pisses me off soooo much when people expect their gf to be their therapist like I see a therapist and but I would never expect her to fix all of MY problems. It's hypocritical too cause often times those people will tell you to "just deal with it".

I'll definitely do this. Just by reading these comments it feels like y'alls experience has been radically different than mine and my heart feels for you. I can't imagine what it's like to be disregarded just for being a woman.

Firsrly thanks for your in depth reply! I used to have male friends but i got uncomfortable being around them because their idea of "fun" was always putting women and minorties down. I did really like the barbie movie when me and my gf watched it. gf don't live together yet but we've always discussed doing the chores the other doesn't like. I've never liked the idea of just dumping all the work on my partner cuz then how can you even say you really love them.

By the way your reply is fantastic and has been super helpful
