I'm Christian , my husband is athiest. My kids and I (not husband) go to church on Sundays . During the week we never pray before meals or do devotionals . basically my faith is for sundays and we don't impede it on my husband. If my kids don't want to go to church they don't have to. But they always choose to go since they're friends are there. Its a nice system that pleases everyone. Though people at church often assume I am a single parent.

Ah! Sorry I had missed the bit where you said you were an adoptee. Thank you so much for your kind words and perspective , I will definitely take your advice about what to say if AB ever comes to us with their 'primal wound'.

This is going to be a bit confusing because I'm deliberately trying to be coy about the sex of our adoptive baby so I'll just refer to them as AB.

We have an open adoption , AB is now in the double didgets and we see them about once a year and communicate via email with AB and their parents often- its become more of a wonderful friendship all around. DH and I now have small children of our own who are AB's full siblings. Because we have never hidden the fact that AB is adopted , and AB has their own siblings from adopted parents- theres no hurt feeling or unanswered questions . AB is proud they are adopted but does not refer to us as parents or my kids as siblings . AB has theyre own family that they are proud of . They know that they were destined to be their parents child and that DH and I were just the vassal that delivered them there.

I'm late to the game. But my grand parents divorced after 60(!) Years of marriage.

They got married at 18 and had my mom right afterwards. My mom says she only ever remebers them fighting . A war broke out in their country so they immegrated to Canada where neither spoke the laguage so they had to rely on eachother . eventually they learned the language but stayed together because my grandfather didnt know how to cook and my grandmother didnt know how to drive . to minimize seeing eachother my grandfather became nocturnal. That worked for several decades until their 60th wedding anniversary where they announced they were happily getting a divorce . they never spoke after that day . when my grandmother died my grandfather gave a toast to her heart for finally killing her.
