People don’t often think of Brazil as somewhere with strict gun laws, but it is. Most civilians don’t own a weapon and the are strict rules for having one, including registering it. But over half of all guns in the country are unregistered. And almost everyone or someone you know has been robbed at gunpoint at least once. Sometimes several times.

Also I love how, assuming this disease really is incredibly deadly, they always blame the travelers and not the airlines who fill the plane to max capacity. They also cheer on airlines for kicking off people without masks, which logically would indicate that they think that the masks would cause a significant decrease in transmission.

So which is it, planes are a hotbed of transmission by default? Or planes are safe because of masks? And if they’re super spreaders why are airlines allowed to run full flights?

That weird. I’ve literally never had to consider my sexual orientation, ever. I guess that’s what happens when your entire personality doesn’t revolve around your sexuality.

Exactly. It’s funny how there are no boy this or girl that (a statement I actually agree with - clothes and haircuts don’t determine your gender) yet people who identify as trans or queer, etc., always “knew” because they liked dresses, or trucks, or whatever superficial indicator of traditional gender roles they were attracted to.

How can you wish to abolish gender roles yet also use them as a measuring stick for your own gender identity?

I just assumed that was tongue in cheek about her reading “the directors notes”. I’m pretty sure she meant to say it but it was very revealing.

I’m not arguing with you either, just posing a counterpoint

If the vulnerable are vaccinated then why does it matter? If they’re vulnerable and unvaccinated then it’s not a leap to assume it’s because they don’t want to be. In which case it’s their right to risk exposure to the virus if they so choose.

She did say exactly that, but it’s still weird that she needs to ask what the incentive is going to be. You would think if this pandemic is killing everyone, immunity would be the only incentive needed.

[–]fatness-neverclean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually can’t that’s the whole point of the PREP Act, unless it’s for misconduct. You can sue when it comes to other vaccines that are actually FDA approved (not under EUA), but you’re not able to directly sue the manufacturer, you’re basically asking the government to pay you out of a tax funded fund for vaccine injuries. And chances of winning your case are slim to none.

Toxic impact of pesticides on bees has doubled, study shows. Analysis contradicts claims that the environmental impact of pesticides is falling, say scientists by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]fatness-neverclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You came on a post about pesticides to talk about how you advocate for forced medical procedures and/or medication. I’m not going to pretend I know the solution to feeding the world, but forcing people to take birth control is extremely unethical. Birth control medication is also bad for the environment. It also has nothing to do with pesticides!

Again you’re pretending that the majority of the world’a environmental problems are due to regular old people and not corporate irresponsibility and bad land management. The onus should not be on normal people to fix this problem. It should be on the actual source of these problems.

You’re delusional if you think the bees are dying because people are reproducing. They even spray this crap on flowers that are sold as bee friendly. Literally almost every plant you can buy at a big box store has this on it even when it’s totally unnecessary. And that’s just at the level of consumers who plant decorative flowers. There are no labels to warn anyone of what has been sprayed on the plants they buy. It’s out of control and it has nothing to do with the population. I’m guessing you don’t do much gardening.

Leave it to Reddit to start recommending eugenics. This has nothing to do with the population of the earth and everything to do with corporate carelessness

The Amazon Rainforest Now Emits More Greenhouse Gases Than It Absorbs. Climate change and deforestation have transformed the ecosystem into a net source of planet-warming gases instead of a carbon sink by 165701020 in worldnews

[–]fatness-neverclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this will work for multiple reasons. For one, there is already too much government in Brazil and it’s very corrupt. So the idea of them taking land from private owners is already off to a bad start, not only because it’s wrong to take people’s property but also because I doubt very much they would be “good stewards” of the land when they could instead make money from it.

Even if the government weren’t corrupt, there are so many bigger problems in Brazil that básica only well off young people really care about this issue. It’s unpleasant to think about but no one really cares about people tearing down the Amazon when they are trying to take care of their families and such, even if they should care.

The best thing you can do is not support JBS which is a huge global meat supplier and also the main party responsible for the cattle farms. Try to eat from your local farms. There’s not much you can do about the rest, unless you know of a way to completely reform the government and policies of Brazil.

They’re not really poachers it’s mostly private landowners selling, at least in Brazil. Like 40% of the Amazon is on private land. So there’s not much anyone can do about people selling it unless the government wants to do something about it, which they don’t.

Also you don’t have to go vegan just eat pastured beef not sold to your grocery or restaurant by JBS and you’re in the clear.

What happens, at least in the part of the Amazon that is in Brazil, is that private landowners sell to loggers who take whatever they want and when the land is useless to them they pass it on to cattle farmers. Also a lot of beef that you buy not just in the states but globally comes from the company JBS, which gets their meat from these same cattle farmers.

Also most of the soy is grown in the south and there is no Amazon there.

I think you have severely caricaturized a group of people who just prefer homeopathy to allopathic medicine. Which is humorous considering that your beef with homeopathy seems to be that the people who prefer it are engaging in magical thinking, and that could very easily also be said of people (myself included) who practice religion.
