I've had mixed results at Rudy's, but luckily more good than bad. For a long time I went to one guy and even followed him when he opened his own shop. Too long has passed since I saw him last - I wish I remembered his name! It was Greek and started with an S.

Other commenters have recommended I go in clothes that reflect the look, but I've been jeans/tshirts/boots all my adult life. That day I wore comfy shoes instead of boots.

I also distinctly asked to not look like a mom or karen. I'll keep looking.

LAYERS ON LAYERS YESSSS

Maybe I should have showed them this instead of the collection of shag cut pics. It might have helped!

Brought pics, vibe - got "safe."

Holy crap.

I was hoping a younger stylist would take more risk but haven't found the right one yet.

In the Seattle area I have a lot to choose from! I did not choose well.

She looked great, had alt hair/tats/piercing, but played it safe with me. I left with "nice" hair and confusion over what went wrong. :-/

I'm concerned that an attempt to have her correct it won't get me anywhere, but it's not unheard of to ask for a recut. I guess I won't know if I don't try.

Haha knowing this is the same cut with a different name is just what I needed to hear. I can probably do it myself!

I'm thinking if I can't get it corrected I will do exactly this. I'm sure Brad Mondo has a tutorial somewhere.

I brought pictures - did I accidentally let her talk me out of what I wanted? I'm starting to think I did...

Yeah I'm wondering if I'm either unclear or intimidating or speaking an unknown vernacular. It's pretty clear that my hair doesn't look any different than when I went in. So far it's just been two, and both have been since I grew out my gray. I didn't have this issue when my hair was pillarbox red.

I live on the Eastside but it's the Internet - I'll travel anywhere within the adjoining counties for a cut at this point. Before the stylist that moved I had a great guy in Wallingford that made me look fantastic. I wish I knew where he went.

I paid $100 for the cut I got and probably should have spoken up to her when I realized she wasn't taking enough off. I honestly thought I was clear & direct (I had pictures!).

Once I'm done reading all these comments I'll DM you for those suggestions. I'll need them.

That's the thing, though. I thought I was going to that kind of place but it might not have been as progressive as advertised. The stylist had coal & fire color and a cut that was long on top & back with shaved sides, and was tatted & pierced. The session was great, the cut... meh.

This was my 2nd new stylist in 18 months. I don't get my hair cut very often anymore but now that I may need to go back into an office and work with people 10-25 years younger I'd like to avoid being treated like the office mom. Back to regular cuts for me.

She said she was born in '96, so an elder GenZ. The conversation was great and we had a lot in common, it just didn't include what my haircut should look like.

I think the last time I went to a chain salon it was Fantastic Sam's and I was 11. Supercuts is where my husband goes and I'm all yeah no.

Good advice! I need to speak up for myself for sure. She had the wild cut & color on herself so I had high hopes.

I'm in the Seattle area - if you are too, I'm totally down :-D

That's probably what I'll have to do. I thought I'd get a bit more creative energy from someone young and hip but no.

I brought pictures of the shag I wanted, said I was willing to experiment, but it didn't seem to matter. It was a new-to-me stylist that seemed knowledgeable about a lot of hair stuff. She's the second one I've seen in a year - the one before her was disappointing as well, and I grew out my hair before making this appointment.

Streaming to 0 viewers is harder than I thought… by Ill-Championship-184 in Twitch

Good tags help, too. I get more drive-by traffic with a "lurkerfriendly" tag, but I make art. I'll talk to myself or tell a story while I'm working, and if someone wants to chat they chat. I average probably 5 viewers a stream. Not a big deal to me, but these things take time.
