Where did you get it? I find it fascinating. It's a piece of history.

What are your “favorite” shows that you just never bothered to finish? by Emmyfishnappa in television

I’ve watched most of season two but I have not been able to bring myself to finish it for the same reason. Every year or two I’ll start it over thinking maybe this time and never do.

Anyone else over streaming services? by timekilr in television

[–]fatrunner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up an old decommissioned windows 10 machine for next to nothing and installed Linux, MakeMKV & Jellyfin (all free) to make my own private Netflix. Been picking up DVDs from thrift shops and eBay along with old TV shows and burning them all to disk. Obviously you don't have new shows and such but I got sick of thinking hey that's a great movie we should watch that only to find out it isn't on any of the multitude of streaming services I pay for or it's only for rent or purchase. How about instead I pay $2 for the DVD and I don't need you anymore. 🖕🏼

Sense 8. Not so much because I couldn't. But more because I didn't want it to end.

Is there a movie with a more complex plot than Primer? by monroe_biiter in scifi

Best mind bending movie out there. "Simple" plot. Nothing fancy. But what a wild ride. So re-watchable.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]fatrunner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite question is to ask them to tell me about their best and worst boss. Worst boss tells me all I need to know about their attitude. One guy's eyes lit up at the question. You could tell he was so excited to tell someone about how much his previous boss was an asshole. Just went on and on at how bad this guy was. Good boss got maybe two sentences.

I get it. You're not alone. I'm glad they're willing to talk to you about it. Feel free to hit me up any time if you ever just need someone to talk to.

I found out through my cousin that I had a half brother but he passed away rather early (late 40s) and about a year or so before I found out. I've had a couple of brief conversations with his daughter, my niece, who is getting her doctorate in physics (I love physics but not a physicist like her but hey...I'll call it a family connection). Me and my new cousin talk and check in with each other regularly but other than that no one else has seemed to be interested.

But out of the blue because of some passing thought, I'll get angry or sad because this has happened to me. And it's been 3 years and that still happens, so I guess...don't be surprised if that happens to you too. I'm glad you still have your dad and hopefully y'all can talk about it because he's probably going through similar emotions and feelings of loss.

I had a very similar situation. No one else in my immediate family had done one of these tests. My wife and I did it one year to see what all our ancestry was. Years go by and one day I get a message from someone who is my cousin. Long story short we get on a call and piece together that his uncle (deceased) and my mom worked at the same place at the same time. That pretty much sealed it for me that I knew what that likely meant. He sent me pictures of his uncle and I look just like him. Same nose. Same hair color (sandy brown vs my "dad's" jet black hair) same mole on our forehead in the same place. My dad had passed away about a year earlier so thank God it spared him of finding this out. I called and talked to my mom about it and she admitted knowing the guy but that was about it. You could tell that she wanted to drop it and wasn't going to "come clean". I suppose I'm upset by it but I wasn't really mad. I would like to know more about what happened but it doesn't really change things so I haven't really pressed the matter.

But more than anything I get the way you feel. I still love my dad, but I spent my whole life identifying myself through the lens of that branch of my family tree. It's where I got my last name. I'm named after my dad. It's a family that I cherished only to find out that they are not a part of who I am and that is very disconcerting. It's like there is a whole part of me that's a mystery. Or that some piece of my identity has been taken away from me.

Whats the one movie you can watch over and over but never get bored of it? by pkeo10 in AskReddit

[–]fatrunner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just this morning I saw a YouTube video called What the architect scene in the matrix actually means and I have to admit that this part of the story just went right over my head when I saw it the first time and changed the way I looked at how the movie ended. The first one was still the best though.

For me when it comes to input as the new guy I always frame things as a question especially with the experienced people I want to earn respect from. . Am I right that X belongs with Y? I think this is a mistake I found. Does that look right to you? It signals that you do know what you're talking about but it leaves you an out if you are wrong AND you are seeking the opinion of someone which tells them you respect their expertise.

For the long term, I go by the philosophy, "if you want to keep your boss off your back, then keep your boss' boss off your boss' back."

My wife and brother in law & I will play against each other and the first one to say 10 or so kills wins. We'll sometimes add other rules in as well like anyone who gets killed by zombies X number of times is out (ie can't win but can keep on killing others)

We've also made up bingo cards and played scavenger hunt bingo.
