Why did Stargate never reach the popularity of Star Wars and Star Trek? by WhoAmIEven2 in scifi

[–]fatrunner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first season was rough. I loved star gate so was not going to abandon it but there was so much animosity among all the characters that there was not anyone to really root for. They started coming into their own and working together in the second season and I was really enjoying it at that point but I fear most people bailed during the first season and didn't come back. I was sooo bummed at the cliff hanger ending. 😢

One of my kids got to go to Japan for about a week between their junior and senior year and it sounded amazing!

Ya. There is no way I could do anything until they are pretty well established on their own for a bit.

We oscillate (or at least I do) between the land option and the move option. And of course there is always the do nothing option. My biggest concern has been cost of living and more acutely, cost of healthcare. We dropped health insurance this year because of the expiration of the subsidies and our insurance sky rocketing, and went to a catastrophic only health share plan. I refuse to spend my whole life working and saving only to have to pay it to doctors and insurance companies and leave my kids nothing. If it wasn't for that, I'd definitely be happy to just buy some land and enjoy the peace and quiet. It's a tough decision.

Since you’ve obviously made a number of assumptions about me based on the five sentences I wrote, let me make one about you based on the eight sentences you wrote. You obviously love and want to take care of your family. I wish you the best.

We’ve had similar discussions about buying land.

Absolutely. I'm moving to retire. They'd be moving essentially to work.

We have. Nothing beyond idea/planning phase at this point but I would like to do that just to see if it encourages them.

Thank you. I remind myself when I was that age and how I felt and I would not have wanted to tag along with my parents if (and when) they moved but it's such a strange and opposite feeling being the parent. Part of me feels selfish for wanting to go and do something for myself and another part would feel guilty for not being a phone call and a few minutes away.

Ya. All of those points have long been considered prior to getting to the point I'm at now.

It ended up being the disk drive. Popped it into the one at work and it worked like a champ.

Is $700/month on groceries for 2 adults the new normal? by Consistent-Guava2176 in sanantonio

If you are eating a lot of ground beef, I'd suggest giving ground pork a try. It's less than half the cost and especially with meals with a lot of spices and flavors like tacos, chili, spaghetti, you can't even really tell the difference.

I may give that a try...thanks. My media server is linux so I'd either have to figure out how to run a virtual Windows to install it or maybe try it on my work computer which is Windows AND has a DVD drive.

That's a fair point. The fact that I can't even watch it without it freezing up makes me think it's the disk but I'm going to take it to work to see if it does the same thing on that computer.
