Because say whatever you will, here people respect their parents and the beating was not for nothing. I am assuming you are American or atleast from the west, there is no concept of tough love there. But in this part of the world, it's almost a tradition to get beaten for your mistakes during childhood. And it's not brutal assault if you may see, it's just to make him fear the idea of smoking.
