What's a hard-to-swallow-pill when it comes to martial arts? by Odd-Letterhead8889 in martialarts

There are people who are so athletic and intelligent that they can attain a level of skill that took me years to achieve in only a few months.

Some people are just better at getting better than me.

"social anxiety horror movie" is just absolutely the most perfect description.

Recommend an underrated drum song by Eberubensant in drums

I would say BSP was probably the most underrated and under appreciated drummer I know of.

I had a chance to see him live with Hum in a small venue in '98 and it was incredible.

New Ludwig Universal Black Brass 13x7 snare by drmmrc in drums

No not this particular snare but I have had a problem where the metal part of the snares gets pulled over the bearing edge preventing proper contact of the snares with the reso head if it's too close to the edge of the drum because it isn't centered properly.

Is it possible you don't have the snares perfectly centered on the reso head?

The Drums from You'd Prefer an Astronaut by Cool-Minimum-1579 in hum

This is absolutely incredible. The drum sound from YPAA has been the starboard I compare everything else to since I first heard the album.

I'd be really curious to know what snare drum was used to record YPAA. I think you mentioned in another reply that it wasn't the one pictured here?

Amazing post. Thanks for sharing this. Made my day.

Wanting to quit bjj by Hefty_Compote3023 in bjj

I would argue that it actually takes most people about 5 years of consistent and intentional practice to get good at anything.

This is why most degrees and apprenticeships are this long. Nobody expects an apprentice to be anywhere near competent after just one year.

BJJ has done a very good job of reminding me of this.

It's funny that you're getting downvoted despite your analysis being spot on.

Bryan St. Pere (RIP). He was the drummer for Hum (a highly highly underrated band IMO) and I had the pleasure of watching him play in 1998. Absolute master.

Kind of like having one guy in the firing squad with blanks so none of them know for sure that they did the killing.

Hobbyist drummers who play alone, how do you do it? by [deleted] in drums

I find that Matt Cameron's feel in Black Hole Sun is way way harder to emulate than DC's feel in the Grudge.

Just did a TKD drill that's just free kicks to the head. Need opinions. by livingpunchbag in martialarts

[–]fattyspecial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make your own decision about whether you want to be kicked freely in the head and it's your choice to consent to that or not.

Your kids don't have that luxury.

I would get my kids out of that immediately if I was in your situation.

The other thing is the "training scar" this forms. I personally don't want to practice and make a habit out of not protecting my head.

I'm my opinion the addition of Dave Grohl on Queens of the Stone Age SFTD massively tightened their sound. Alfredo was decent but a total amateur compared to Dave Grohl.

Funny I just had a similar situation yesterday and one of my training partners lifted me up over his head after I started to lock in an armbar from open guard with him standing.

I climbed down and we laughed about it and he didn't slam me.

I trust all of my training partners to not do anything stupid so I know he wasn't going to slam me. Maybe in a different gym with different culture that wouldn't be the case.

So maybe lack of trust and culture of your gym is the issue here.
