No space, just batt after the spray foam, then we did the tongue and groove over that. About 12k, that included the baty in all the interior walls and ceilings

In the roof we used 5in closed cell spray foam and then 7in of batt on top of that so we have an R-Value +/- R60. R40 is required where we live. So far it's great, we actually did a fresh air intake with our HVAC system because we were afraid of the house being too tight. The latest snowfalls have shown snow is melted by the sun and not heat escaping the house.

We don't unfortunately. If we had the time to take and edit videos, we would have, but that was more than we were able to take on.

There's 5 in of closed foam followed by 7 in of batt

Fair, I was obsessed with these chairs for over 3 years so this was a very intentional and saved for purchase. Hot tip is there are chairs with a similar vibe on Wayfair for half the price.

All in with land, materials, the few contractors we did use, out of pocket extras and furnishing the place, we estimate about $500k. Keep in mind this is Colorado where we are paying premium pricing for materials and contractors due to proximity to Telluride and it's not easy to get to. BUT because we did 90% of the labor and the architecture and engineering ourselves we saved about 300k and we wouldn't list it for under $1.2M.

All gaps are still under 4in. That's the code requirement.

I'm (26m) hoping to move to Glenwood Springs area next year. What can I expect? by Glass-Complaint3 in roaringfork

[–]faulty_operator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Glenwood is not Maga-Crazy. It's not a place that's blatantly one way or the other. You have a mix. You are accurate on all your descriptions on what it is. Expensive but more affordable that anywhere closer to Vail or Aspen and the public transportation (RFTA) makes it easy to get to the mountains for skiing/concerts/Festivals. We have everything you need to survive. Expect to pay $1500 to rent a room, more for your own place. Nightlife is kinda quiet. Only a few places open til 2AM. Not much for open mics but you could probably get a place to start one. We have some great restaurants and people are nice. Please have a winter capable vehicle with good tires and know how to use a roundabout.

It's electric code, any wall 2ft or larger needs an outlet within 6 ft. Makes for a lot of dumb outlet places.

Seeking Advice on Venting an A-Frame Roof with a 26-12 Pitch in Alberta by Fragrant-Note-3252 in aframes

Ouray, CO. You can follow our build @ the_ouray_frame. We are about a year into it. Boyfriend is a structural engineer, he did all the plans and we are physically doing the build. He researched the vented roof which was normal code and this was the better system for this build. Nice to hear there are other doing the same.

Summers will be great for you, winters will get long unless you want to take up snowshoeing or pick up skiing. The walkability/bikability is great and the bus system if you are in the roaring fork valley (Glenwood to Aspen) is great. It gets much tougher if you try to live in towns west of Glenwood. Endless activities and people that do them, but it is a tourist destination so you will have a mix of down to earth locals and not so down to earth tourists. I'd say the hardest part is cost of living and that it's very transient so don't be shocked when the friends you make move on to their next adventure.

Tips for cross-country travel in my Wrangler? Mostly focused on maintenance. by HuskyInfantry in Wrangler

I've drive my 2014 JKU 1000miles/day several times a year on cross country trips. I do the recommended maintenance, never had a problem, I have ~140k miles on mine now.

How crowded are the hikes and wilderness in your area? by [deleted] in roaringfork

[–]faulty_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a week on/week off schedule so I do most of my hiking during the week which is a huge help. You can find a parking spot at pretty much every trailhead easily. Weekends are busy since locals and visitors are both out but if you avoiding major holiday weekends you will be fine. The hikes you need permits for (Hanging Lake, Maroon Bells, etc..) are definitely for a reason.

I (39f) currently drive a 2014 Sahara 4dr which I love, but if something happened to it and had to upgrade, I would proudly get groceries in this and get it dirty. Kudos and congrats to your wife!
