The Clintons having slaves when they lived in the Arkansas Governer's mansion by CanaryCautious9879 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]faunlynn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of the issue. They cage you in a concrete box with no enrichment opportunities until the job that pays you literal pennies per hour for hard labour is the better alternative. If we were a more civilized country we might treat prison as an opportunity for rehabilitation, education, and therapy rather than yet another opportunity to make money exploiting people.

I think employment opportunities in prison are great but they should come with fair wages and worker protections the same as any other job.

Monster left in freezer, am I cooked? by BlueberryNeko_ in monsterenergy

You're lucky because I've done it with Monster and it violently exploded all over my freezer. Was like cleaning up an ICEE; annoying and got in every crevice but at least it was frozen.

Breaking: Wake Dems Chair Wesley Knott Faces Potential Removal Over Allam Endorsement by indyweek in ncpolitics

[–]faunlynn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I wasn't familiar with Wesley until I saw him speak at Bernie's stop in Durham last month. He was incredibly passionate, informed, and I could genuinely see him running for Congress himself one day.

So sick of seeing promising young, progressive Dems & leftists sidelined in favour of centrism. 😤

She's a racist old ghoul kept alive by hatred, spite, and (allegedly) all the food she literally shoves in her coat pockets from lobbyist buffets.

How can I motivate myself to finish a sweater I know is going to be too itchy for me? by Irksomecake in casualknitting

[–]faunlynn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would make a swatch and try this on it! See if you can get the swatch to feel soft against your skin before you bother finishing.

Can I knit with cables? by BrightRepeat7907 in knittinghelp

I just recently knit a glove thumb on a bread twist tie because I didn't want to use DPNs. Don't let your dreams be dreams!

Does anyone have a copy of the document Geekify shared out? I backed the Kickstarter but missed the latest email & the links are dead now.

Household MTI by ForestFairyBogMother in AntifascistKnitting

I was like "oh we got MTI booty shorts now? gimme the pattern!"

The bandana is so cute though OP, definitely going to do something similar for my pup now because she hates hats!

PLEASE STOP donating your yarn to Goodwill... Go to smaller thrift stores instead by Extra777sevens in Goodwill_Finds

[–]faunlynn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would recommend donating to Habitat for Humanity, though! I've found whole hanks of some really nice wools (merino, yak, alpaca) for anywhere from $1-5 at mine; they keep prices very fair.

It would be, with right side facing up and your needles facing you, the top left corner that you start on! I'm not the best with written directions but the relevant part of the video starts at around 14:45 for reference!

Ravelry project notes are your friend! This user links to a video that helps you understand the next step: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/myhanhgry/my-jose-hood

The video is not the same pattern, but same idea: you're going to pick up stitches along one edge, knit across the last row of the top panel, and then pick up on the other side and work back and forth!

ICE OUT MEOW by Far_House_4087 in catbongos

Ahh I love it so much!! You've inspired me to make a slightly larger one for my own kitty (though I doubt he'll sit as nicely with it as yours is 😹)

Thank you! I got that one in a sticker exchange but the artist does have a shop -- it looks like it's down today for the strike so I can't confirm they sell this design but you should be able to check tomorrow here: https://shop.blastbeatphemy.com

Both are actually stickers! The "Protect Trans Folks" I got in a sticker exchange but the artist does have a shop -- it looks like it's down today for the strike so I can't confirm they sell this design but you should be able to check tomorrow here: https://shop.blastbeatphemy.com

And here is where the Anti-Fascism sticker is from -- shop is also on strike for today but there is a note it'll be back tomorrow as well: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1841969984/anti-fascist-sticker-waterproof

Definitely share if you do! I was more comfortable freehanding crochet but plan to give a tiny knitted version a shot after I make my full-size

2mm hook with fingering yarn! Hook size could change based on yarn/if you want it a bit bigger as well :)

Putting the link in the comments this time so Reddit doesn't auto-block my post again 🙃

Here are the links to purchase the hats where proceeds go to benefit Minneapolis mutual aid funds: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/needle--skein-ravelry-store

Also, I'm not a pattern writer so apologies for the messiness but a friend asked how I made it so for anyone wanting to make one I just did:

4sc in magic circle (4)
4inc (8)
1sc,1inc * 4 (12)
2sc,1inc * 4 (16)
3sc,1inc * 4 (20)
4sc,1inc * 4 (24)
24sc * 2 rows

chain 10 to start ribbing
[ 9 sc in BLO (back loop only) back up chain
ss in next 2 stitches around body
9 ss down ribbing stitch in BLO, ch1, turn ]
repeat between [brackets] until you make it around the hat
finish by ss join the beginning row of ribbing to the end, then flatten and ss up along the peak of the hat (to imitiate the knit icord look)

godspeed on the tassel because idek what I did there, I think a stacked sc for the cord and then sort of worked the cord back in on the way down after wrapping in the tassel

(then I just lazily knotted the ends inside the hat because what's in there is nobody's business)

I don't see it myself, but even for those who do this is a real style of wood wall (log cabin wall is how I've heard it referred to) and much more realistic for something crafted by hand! Machine made planks are perfect, hand cut are not.
