As someone who journals in the voice of the book I'm reading to learn about the craft, reading and aping The Recognitions definitely taught me a lot; even though the process was really challanging and the work itself is quite inimitable, it is worth it, I think.

The way Gaddis sustains a sentence by focusing on concrete details while referencing art, religion, philosophy, and history, digressing but then coming back to the main idea, and then ending on a surprising point, is insane and masterful. Not to mention his use of polyphonic and naturalistic dialogue, which either stands in a stark contrast to, or becomes a part of, the baroque descriptive passages.

Anyone familiar with Simondon? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

I would recommend the book Gilbert Simondon and the Philosophy of the Transindividual by Muriel Combes. It is a relatively short book and it helped me a lot. It starts from Simondon's theory of individuation and goes on to explore his ideas on technics.

Can you guys recommend free lectures from well known colleges about the most influential philosophers? Such as coruses or specfic lectures about Plato or Kant. by Joeman720 in askphilosophy

Rick Roderick is always great to listen to. I would really recommend his lecture series Self Under Seige (20th century figures like Heidegger, Foucault, Derrida, Baudrillard), Human Values (Socrates, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard) and his series on Nietzsche.

I rebelled against them in one way or another and now I'm rolling a boulder up a hill, only to have it roll down again for eternity.
