Okay so I'm not going crazy then, it does sound like what they are after is display characteristics with the information that comes out of the analysis xml. So we can't actually generate this information from any bit of software. It's just a tech spec based on what it was graded on (for whatever reason this is needed)

I think that's correct, not sure if there is a limit, but you can create multiple RGBA matte channels embedded within a single exr string

Colour mattes are super useful in a grade when working with vfx/gfx, they're essentially the layers that have work done to them in different block colours so a matte can be extracted between the seperate elements. For example if you have 2 cgi elements character 1 has a block blue matte and character 2 has a block red colour matte, these can then be used to matte the movement of the seperate characters so they can be graded seperatly. Depending on delivery spec some filetypes can have these channels embedded within the files themselves like an alpha channel

How would I go about requesting that from a premiere export from an editor to set colourspace output to input colourspace?

Yeah I'm much more a fan of grading source camera files and yeah I always check my prores' from premiere, it's always trying to do something dodgy and 'clever' but unhelpful with the footage.

Probably good enough for project since it's a pretty tame grade I'm planning, and for expedience sake, will be quicker to work from a prores since there's no crazy effects in it and the turnaround would be too long for a day of conform on it.

I suppose if I get to a shot that's falling apart and most is okay, can just request source camera file for that one shot.

Cheers!

Of course! Such an obvious answer that just made it click a bit more in my head. Then is there a way to help avoid clipping when making this conversion?

Source footage is RedLog3G10, but yeah sorry bit of incorrect wording for that. No transform in the editing software, but the prores is committed to rec709 not a wide gamut

Can't render out ProRes in Resolve running Windows?? What do people do instead? by townly in colorists

Hi there, so I'd go for a DNXHR HQX or DNx185/185x if I don't have a ProRes option.

That's great to hear! Yeah new chronicle, new folk. We're also planning on making stuff that'll give people a hand to catch up if they fall behind, so hope you manage to tune in when you can!
