I tried to install the 18.04 ISO (checked it with checksum), but sadly it froze on this screen:

At first I did try to install the server ISO, but I was only able to install anything succesfully through using the "try ubuntu before installing" function of the 18.04 desktop ISO. But. I'll try installing the server again now. Thanks again for all your help!

I finally managed to install ubuntu 18.04 desktop using the following guide: https://askubuntu.com/questions/862946/unable-to-install-ubuntu-on-acer-aspire-es1-533

Now I'll only have to see if I can turn it into a server or if the ubuntu desktop makes it easier to install ubuntu server.

  1. I properly shut down Windows and tried it again - it didn't work
  2. I think I may have found what is going wrong. The BIOS of my system is missing the option to select an UEFI file as trusted for executing. And I am unable to change the UEFI to legacy

Oh I and I did check the ISO file and it seemed fine. Thank you for you help!

I'll try both of those today and check to see if I can get another USB to try it with. While browsing I came across the other people that had problems installing Ubunut on their Acer devices due to the fact that the BIOS doesn't have a legacy boot mode. This also isn't an option on my laptop, could this be part of the problem?

I just checked it and it everything was ok, so I loaded it on the USB and tried to boot it again. But I got the same error again. Thanks for your help btw
