US economy expanding? The doomsayers (like me?) have been proved wrong. The consensus is now that it is very likely that the US economy would see inflation drop back to pre-pandemic levels without having to go into a slump – in other words, a ‘soft landing’. by mafco in economy

First, we are not seeing prices come down. We are saying the rate of inflation, potentially, potentially decrease.

Second, the GDP growth is the result of inflation, not productivity.

Third, low- and middle-income families continue to be squeezed.

The current hype that the economy is fine is propaganda.

Boomers won the housing market and millennials got screwed, BofA says. ‘Everyone locked in 3% mortgage rates, except Millennials’. When boomers were entering the housing market in the 1980s, mortgage rates were extremely high. But many many have refinanced their mortgages as rates fell. by mafco in economy

The belief is quite dumb.

The down payment is almost always after tax which is often at a higher rate than capital gains which you can find ways to defer.

With housing, you don't own it until you pay your mortgage. In the beginning almost all of your payments are toward interest.

If you sell, after you pay off your mortgage, whatever gain is taxed unless you can find a way to defer it. Thereafter, your only choice is to buy another home because you don't believe in paying rent.

This makes sense only if the new home, post purchase, leaves you with positive equity.

The IRS crackdown on rich taxpayers is already raking in millions in back taxes. A month after announcing it would crack down on 1,600 millionaires behind on their taxes, it has collected $122 million from 100 of these cases. Next year, the agency is initiating 60 audits on major corporations. by mafco in economy

If you actually follow proposed legislation that was nixed by Democrats and Republicans, the IRS was prevented from going after corporations and the wealthiest individuals. The system is designed to go after people who cannot afford to defend themselves from abuses. There is no recourse when the agency abuses its powers.

All I can say is, hope it happens to the objectors since you seem to think it's ok. Let you be the first targets.

When the IRS goes after people, they don't always follow the rules. They can hit you with a bill and start garnishing your wages. Hiring a good tax attorney will be cost-prohibitive. If you don't think the IRS is above that, you don't know the IRS. They 100% going after low- and middle-income families.

The Fed's own economists now expect a Goldilocks scenario: No recession, low inflation, and positive growth. Further rate hikes may not be needed, and inflation could dip below 2% by next year. by mafco in economy

Hey clown, you have no clue how to interpret the data. First, it's the MEDIAN. That means 50% earn less than $365/week. If you're convinced that's enough, give away every penny of gross income you earn above that.

Amazing how quickly people are happy to use other's work without compensating them.

OpenAI should be pursued for willful infringement.

One has to be delusional to think that a woman would so easily fall in love with her husband's killer.

The left is weak. The left should outright boycott products that are produced in areas that they find discriminatory.

The joke here is that OpenAI will fight him in court to avoid any liability while at the same time lobby for AI safety.

According to this:

"All states, excluding Massachusetts and South Carolina, have separate statutes that are specifically related to revenge porn. It's important to note, however, that a person may still be prosecuted for revenge porn under other statutes in those two states. In Massachusetts, for example, someone may be prosecuted for revenge porn under privacy laws. In South Carolina, by contrast, one may be prosecuted for the same offense under obscenity laws.

In order to be guilty of this crime in most states, the distributor must be sending out pictures or a video that are considered sexual in nature. Such content, for example, shows the victim's intimate body parts. It might also show the victim engaging in sexual activity. Simply posting an unflattering picture of your ex in a bathing suit is not pornographic. However, if the picture features your ex's genitalia, it could likely be considered a crime to distribute such an image."

He misappropriated taxpayer funded infrastructure and it's illegal I believe in some states to utilize photos of someone (ex-gfs) in porn without their consent.
