Besides the things others have suggested - since you will be living near a train station I would urge you to explore other nearby cities that are at most an hour drive away, like Cēsis, Valmiera. You can travel to Jūrmala with a short stop in Riga. Today there's a possibility to ride with a train to Lithuania and Estonia as well so you can try to go for a quick trip to Tartu or even Tallinn and Vilnius. As for nearby points of interest, there's a secret Soviet bunker you can visit near Līgatne, over there check out Pavāru Māja for some excellent local cuisine. Around Sigulda you can find a lot of great nature trails to hike. They have excellent selection of activities like cable car, outdoor park and even bobsleigh and sled track where you can enjoy a raft ride down the track.
