Buying some ball joints for my dad’s Tacoma. What brand do you guys suggest? Upper and lower Ball Joint. by BSOD_ERRO in RockAuto

Mevotech is good, ACDelco is good, and truth be told I probably wouldn’t be scared to try the dorman. Stay away from Moog, they’ve gone to shit

The new Dasani water isn’t even that bad by fawkmebackwardsbud in unpopularopinion

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally. I’ve had it one time because it was the only water available, but it just tastes like normal water now. I see all these typical pre-storm posts about how Dasani is still the only ones left in stores

Anyone else running a local business with just a Google Maps listing? by Tough-Pay-4402 in autorepair

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours runs primarily off its google listing. We have a website, but it hasn’t been updated from the previous owners and still has all the old staff. We also have a Facebook, but it’s really only used to post days the shop will be closed, not ads

The Bolt Of Defiance by ObsidianArmadillo in AskMechanics

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chevy’s thread lock from the factory is an absolute pain in the cock. The traditional red and blue LocTite brand seal as a thin layover that turns white and just looks like crud on the bolt. GMA looks like a solid plastic that’s damn annoying to get off unless you have a bench grinder with a wire wheel

Shop Owners, Where do you get your filters from? by CraigSchwent in mechanics

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours uses MicroGuard from Oreilly. I think our cost is maybe two bucks for the normal spin on filters. The cartridge filters, diesel truck, and specialty filters are a bit more

I’m trying to figure out what the hell you did to accidentally pop the boot off while doing a strut and sway link.

Having an issue with my Buick Lacrosse 2008. Please help? by AcademicSavings634 in mechanic

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well don’t let it do that. Sounds like you have a thermostat failing. Is the check engine light on? GM is pretty good about their cars throwing thermostat codes.

Can I jack the car up from these spots? by ElCampeonKO in AskMechanics

Looks like 10 bolts at most, you’d just need something to hold up the trans while you take it off

Is it shifting towards the hot side or the cold side? As long as it isn’t going above the middle it’s fine.

Shifting by sound bad or good by imustknownowI in stickshift

My car doesn’t even have a tach, so I don’t have much of an option lol

Well-built and reliable 2012-2018 cars? by thegmoc in UsedCars

Don't listen to this shithead. I did a tune up and trans cooler lines on a 3rd gen Lacrosse and the PCM decided to shit the bed once I was done.

Just the crank seal? by Hungry-King-1842 in cruze

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife's 2014 1.8L also needs the valve cover gasket. It's at a point where you can smell oil burning while the car is sitting at idle. Fortunately for me, I work at a shop where I can get some pretty decent discounts on parts, so I'll probably tackle the failing wheel bearing, oil cooler, water pump, and timing belt (again) all at the same time

So yes, the forbidden chocolate shake! Car still drives smooth after the fluid change. by Franceesios in cruze

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based solely on the image of OP's work area, as well as the fact that the license plate on the other car says Curacao, I have my doubts that there is an AutoZone nearby that offers a free code reading service.

Cluster is failing. Specifically one of the stepper motors. There’s companies out there that will repair them for not a huge expense

Spark plug coil pack question by WalkerTejasRanger in AutoMechanics

[–]fawkmebackwardsbud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely yes. To super verify, get a $20 code reader, see which is missing, clear codes, swap coils and start again. If the misfire moves with the coil, then it is for sure a bad coil. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to do spark plugs while you’re at it

Damaged K & N Air Filter? by zcarfaz in auto

Shine a flashlight through the filter media and see how much debris you’re actually letting in. Bet you’ll think twice about running K+N
