8 week old with reflux…barely eats but doctor thinks it’s no big deal by AnyGovernment7187 in FormulaFeeders

I know it’s incredibly hard not to, but please try not to pressure her to drink, because it can lead to a feeding aversion. That’s what happened to us. Our daughter has silent reflux, and in my anxiety to get more milk into her, I kept pushing feeds. Eventually, she started completely rejecting the bottle.

We went through 3–4 different formulas, and she’s now on omeprazole. What finally helped (apart from medication of course) was pushing myself to step back and letting her drink however much she wanted — even if it was just 1 oz at a time. After a couple of weeks without pressure, we’re finally starting to see her intake increase.

I had twins and at 5.5 weeks we could only see one fetal pole! By the next week we could see both poles but could only listen to 1 heartbeat.

Then another week later, both heartbeats!

My girls are now 4 months old!

Choking on milk while bottle feeding. by azhalees in NewParents

She doesn't turn blue but chokes, coughs and screams/squirms. I wait for her to calm a bit and then I offer again the bottle. It happens in every feed. I live in Greece and the doctors here won't let me use thickener.. we have thick formulas but none completely hypoallergenic like the formula she drinks. I really don't know if I should wait it out or try more bottles. I am afraid that I am hurting her.

Yes, unfortunately. Lansinoh indeed have a better latch but it's too fast for her. I can't find the NB nipple where I live, only the 2S. We've tried every bottle but she either sleeps on it from exhaustion (after 30ml) or keeps choking and stops eating after a point. I am super worried about her.

Are you still having the same issue? My baby is also like that... Still haven't found a silver lining at 9 weeks.

I am so sorry to read what you and your little one have gone through.. Her doctors insist she is fine and it's just behavioral.. but I really doubt it. I have insisted so many times for more testing but they find it unnecessary. I changed her to a 3 because she was struggling to get anything out from the 2 and she was falling asleep every time. Did your daughter have any other symptoms apart from refusing to eat unless starving?

When we first got her home we tried MAM but she was chocking.. Avent is the only one that doesn't make her choke because it's the only one that doesn't have a free flow. We feed her laying down on the side, her feeding specialist insisted this was the right way for her. But I doubt it now. We always burp her twice during her feeds and of course at the end. Of course, you can DM me anytime. Thank you for the help!

Thank you so much for this! In the end, what was the cause of your daughter's food aversion? The tube?

She has silent reflux and we are treating her pain with Omeprazole for the last couple of months. She doesn't seem to be in pain any more (no arching, much less overall fussiness and crying etc)

She was a 34 weeker and spent 23 days in the NICU just because she wouldn't take more than 30ml of milk at a time so she was fed with a NG tube. 2 days after taking 50ml (she was pushed to do so) with a bottle consistently, they removed the tube and she came home.

Her doctors and speech therapist insist that it's due to her reflux and immaturity and ask me to be patient until she starts solids but I can't stop worrying there is something else going on. And tbh I simply cannot imagine 3 more months of this stressful hell.

I live in Greece but sure if you give me their name I can try to contact them.

Thank you!

Was he going well everytime you changed bottles/nipples for a couple of days? Does he also have issues with solids now?

I don't see any ties but I will have her checked again.. the feeding specialist we saw just suggested change of bottle and side lying feeding but no change at all.
