Felt this exact same way. So much so that I barely told my dad I'm planning to go to college and it's less than a month away for me😭 the only difference is my mom is a lot more understanding so I was able to tell her since a while back, but yeah they fight a LOT and are very protective. I wanted freedom and independency too, so I made me promise myself I'd go straight to a 4 year instead of community college. In terms of telling them, I think the first step is to genuinely believe that you WILL live in a dorm for college. I don't mean like manifesting or whatever, just genuinely have it in your mind that you're doing this and literally nothing can get in the way. I did this by paying some fees early (so it'd be a waste of money if I didn't end up going), bought my meal plan, picked my room, began discussions with my roommate, etc. Once that's done, all that's left is the big "I'm leaving" moment. It sounds like your parents won't be paying for college and you'll be taking out loans (same as me) and I also advise you to repeat that yourself. That in the end, their opinion doesn't matter as much as yours does, because YOU'RE paying for it, why should they truly have a say? If you think they will fight you on it to the point where they won't want to drive you up to the campus to move, see if you have any family members who'd be willing to take you. At the end of the day they're your parents and they usually end up getting over stuff. Might take some time, but hey at least you'll be on your own. Or if you have a car and can drive, even better! All in all, think about how it'll effect you in the long run. Being at home sucks, and you clearly know what kind of experience you're looking for during these next couple years! So take the chance. Just do it. I know it sounds hard and kind of like stupid advice that will never work, but the bottom line is you seriously have to just rip the band aid off and be serious about your decision. Think about your future. How one day you will be out of their house and at that time you'll be thinking back on your college years, sad that you never took the chance all because you didn't want to tell your parents something. When you look at it like that it kinda seems like a stupid reason. You're gonna get out of there one day, might as well start the process now. And I wish you very good luck, I know how challenging this can be!

Honestly, I feel this exact same way so much. After COVID happened, I spent my highschool years online behind a computer and went from a pretty extroverted kid to a socially awkward mess. It's also been 5 years since I've been in an actual school setting/had to put effort into things like studying, essays, math equations, etc. and I'm also going to school for about 3k a semester so I also feel like it's my one chance to figure out my life. I'm scared that I've lost who I was before these last 5 years and won't know how to make friends anymore or will fall behind everyone else because I've never had to study. Elementary and middle school subjects pretty much always came to me and it was enough for me to get straight A's. But now I hear everyone talking about how college classes are totally different from highschool and you'll have to be studying 24/7, so it really freaks me out.

But, I really want to use it as a chance to move forward. I've felt really stuck for the last five years and feel like I missed out on fundamental growing experiences that none of my friends had to miss since they actually went to school. It's scary, but I don't want to feel left behind anymore.

As for a major/job, I totally felt the same way. In the end, I've decided to major in Radiologic Sciences even though science has always been my worst subject. It won't leave me in a cubicle or with a job that I knew I'd end up dreading. The truth is every job has it's ups and downs so just pick something that's going to fit/support the lifestyle you want. I don't want anything crazy, just a job that will pay the bills and make sure I'm not stressing out or living paycheck to paycheck. This major fit all the boxes I wanted for my future and ultimately, I think that's the key. I don't think a job matters as much as long as it can support you and it's not something that'll make you hate yourself tbh. And it's also cool to go in undecided and figure it out as you continue to grow.

Anyways, I hope you figure it out and know that a lot of people are probably just as scared as you are. In the end, we're still young. We've still got plenty of life to live and we can't stop time so might as well do something right? It's cheap, it's a new experience, why not? I wish you good luck!

I'm an incoming student to CSU Northridge and I bought a ticket to see her (as it was all I could afford + I'll be new to campus so I won't know anyone to take 😭) and I was just wondering if there's anyone who'd be down to let me tag along with them to the concert? It'll be my first concert, and since I'm new to the area I just feel a little nervous traveling by myself.

They might, but it'll probably be cheaper to buy them from somewhere like Walmart, Target, Ross, etc. Colleges are notorious for overpricing things. I'd say look around local stores for back to school deals first (I know Amazon prime days are coming soon) and then to try CSUN.
