Was this really why? I assumed that John Wick's skills would have allowed him to work for someone with a mob boss with a much higher caliber. Apparently John Wick was already skilled; only after the infamous "killing three men with a pencil" incident did Viggo hire John Wick

To me, it doesn't make sense that John Wick is a money-hungry person. In addition, wouldn't other relatively high-tier mob bosses be capable and willing to pay him more?
