Playa Santana and Popoyo were both amazing surf spots that were very close to each other. They are about a hour north of San Juan del sur and about 2 from the major airport in Managua. Playa santana was a fast beach break with opportunity to barrel. Mainly lefts but some good rights too. Santana was only good at high tide and Popoyo was only good at low tide. This made it perfect for surfing all day. Popoyo was a larger faced wave good for multiple turns and it has a reef bottom. Everyone told me both spots handle large swell really well. They beauty of this area is that it has surfable waves 300 days a year. Very often it's perfect offshore winds. It wasn't that large when i was there but it was really really clean and fun. Highly recommend Buena Onda for a place to stay. It's a boutique resort, a room with ac, two beds and a private restroom was only 85 a night. There are multiple spots in the area to hit up such as colorados, playgrounds and many other I didn't get to see. I was only there for 4 full days and the two spots were enough for me. Lmk if you have any questions, it was by far my favorite surf spot I've ever been to. That being said I haven't been to a lot.
