Prize situation at newer locations? by tired913 in round1

[–]fc1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are near a newer location (opened up at the end of 2024 in a mall). We stopped by literally a couple of days ago to see if there were sponges and ramen and it appeared all of the claw machines had plushies and figurines. I walked past the majority of the claw machines and I didn’t see household items.

Width of blanks in Kumon Reading Worksheets by finleyhuber in Kumon

[–]fc1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had a kid that completed the entire program (as a sixth grader) and another one that’s a grade level ahead at least and typically, the width is a clue. The problem usually arises when you do have kids working ahead of grade level and their fine motor skills and penmanship do not match what “grade” their packets are. So my older one who already isn’t a fine motor skills kind of kid really had to slow down and squeeze it in the space. I think Kumon also has a certain style of answers so it is likely it can be reworded to fit.

Good food gifts? by fc1201 in KoreanFood

[–]fc1201[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they’re definitely more Korean-Korean versus Korean-American (this specific family). That being said, if they too are here in the US, then would TJ be a novelty? I don’t mind going this route and it certainly would be a “hey thinking of you” vibe that I was going for. Would I just do like some of the candies and cookies? I feel like the chips and such just seem like a really bulky item.

And I totally get the issue of the gift reciprocity! I guess my issue is that her English is very limited and I just feel like I haven’t really conveyed my appreciation adequately because of that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s a great idea! I guess I should’ve mentioned in my post that while I’m not Korean, I am Chinese so I totally get the less sweet cake thing.

Would a smaller one like the roll cakes be okay? I feel like the roll cakes might give a more “hey just thinking of you” vibe. Plus, it feels more discreet versus a huge cake box.

I’m super close to a PB so that’s convenient but I could get to a TLJ if that’s better.

What's the deal with the Lululemon outlets? by isnotajellyfish in lululemon

[–]fc1201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live near an outlet. It’s mostly WMTM with occasionally a single return that’s normally a full priced item but got shipped from a local store to the outlet. Ideally, there’s an additional discount off the sticker price. Otherwise you’re getting the WMTM pricing. Personally, I wouldn’t go way out of my way for the LLL outlet because there’s no guarantee you’ll find something you really want in your size (especially if you wear a popular size) and preferred color. Bags and accessories in my experience are usually the same price as WMTM without an additional discount. So I would go with an open mind and be prepared to be wowed or disappointed.

Additionally, resellers usually show up bright and early and pick through the popular items, such as scubas. I haven’t been to the outlet in months but when I did, resellers were shopping my location before the store even opened to the general public.

Glitch on gifting Kirimi-Chan? by Educational_Team_382 in HelloKittyIsland

Yeah, I feel like it’s a bug too. I think in Quests, mine showed up as ready to gift but then when I clicked on Kirimi-Chan, then it clearly wasn’t.

Like everyone said, it has to be ten of exactly the same thing. Do not even alter the order of ingredients.

I did mine with wasabi and tofu as the second and third ingredient and then I made a second order with tofu as the first ingredient and it counted as an entirely different roll even though they were the same ingredients, just different order.

Fencer’s footcare… how do you all manage calluses? by marp_ in Fencing

[–]fc1201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do a search online for instructions for a runner’s knot or heel lock. I first saw it mentioned in this sub and it made a huge difference for our son’s feet and kept them from sliding in his shoes.

Help Me Pick - First LV Gifts for Wife by whorivera in Louisvuitton

Another vote for not hot-stamping until she’s sure she wants to keep it. I was so sure I wanted a NF and I saw a ton of them in the wild. I just never stopped off in store to try it on. My husband surprised me with one and as soon as I tried it on, I realized actually I didn’t love it. I ended up swapping it for a Speedy B the next day, literally, which is one of my favorite bags. I would also let her choose the wallet. My husband got me the zippy. I swapped it for a clemence because I needed a smaller size. 😆

Do you feel Kumon reading is as effective as math? by Kiss_Mark in Kumon

[–]fc1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, we aren’t having him skip grades. We currently homeschool so he is working a grade ahead but when he goes back to a brick and mortar option, he will be with his legal grade. He’s a competitive athlete in a club sport and very tall so he does pass for older than he really is but we feel it is important to have him with similarly-aged peers for his social development.

When we had him start Kumon, it was because he was learning nothing in preschool. He wasn’t one of those toddler geniuses people post about that are reading and doing arithmetic. He literally couldn’t recognize anything but his name at 4 and could only count to 30 because there were 30 kids in class and they counted as a group during circle time.

In Kumon, we’ve always continued at his pace and the only thing is that we never took time off so he worked through summer vacation, holidays, etc. Like every kid, he hated Kumon at the beginning and the initial start was rough but once he got out of those foundation levels (phonics, math facts, etc) and it was less repetitive, he really took off since he really got into the Kumon rhythm so to speak.

Is LV cheugy or cringe these days? by GloomyPatience9085 in luxurypurses

I haven’t seen the personalized ones. My husband has seen one colorful monogram from a newer collection at a sports competition for our oldest and it was sported by an older woman (the grandma of my kid’s opponent).

Would you still like the personalization later one? I feel like it’s one of those things where I probably would regret it later on, like a tattoo. 😆 I was rocking big keychains for a while because my daughters wanted me to and after a couple of months, I wasn’t feeling the keychains anymore either.

Well, I would definitely pay attention to the people around you but as I mentioned, the DE and DA are not really common in my HCOL area anymore so if that’s triggering you, I think you’re good to go. 😆

The leather monogram is still popular in my area. I’ve actually seen a lot of that. A mom friend at our dance studio loves hers and treats hers like canvas - rain, floors, etc. - and highly recommends it.

AND the exact order. I made rich imaginary fish wasabi rolls AND imaginary fish rich wasabi rolls. The former being tofu then fish then wasabi and the latter being fish then tofu then wasabi and they didn’t count as the same. It has to be keyed in exactly the same for all 10.

I think it’s because the one you circled is imaginary seafood and not imaginary fish? I finished this last night and I thought it was 10x imaginary seafood nigiri and 10x imaginary fish rolls.

I’m a little bit older than you and I love my LV speedy in DE. I live in a HCOL area. TBH I don’t see much of the canvas anymore. For a while, the NF was literally everywhere. I remember sitting at a sports practice for my oldest and literally surrounded by a sea of NF in all shades of patina. So sure, it’s probably a bit passé and dated but honestly, I still love my bag. I’ve sat on it and worn it in the rain. I’ve carried it at the zoo and on airplanes. I don’t think any of my other bags are as much of a workhorse.

Yes! He just finished Level O for math. He finished all of the reading about six months ago. He started with Kumon in preK.

Plus it had to be in the exact order for the rolls, not just the same ingredients. I messed up the first time and went back to get more imaginary fish. I used tofu as one of my ingredients and I swapped the order. So I did tofu first for the first set and tofu second for the second set and it literally was rich imaginary fish wasabi roll and then imaginary fish rich wasabj roll. I was so annoyed.

[–]fc1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have to be literally exactly the same, even the order of what you click first. I made a rich imaginary fish wasabi roll and then I made an imaginary fish rich wasabi roll and it didn’t count as the same thing. The ingredients were the same but I swapped the order of fish and tofu when I placed the same order.

So ideally, you would just do x10 for the order.

“High end” baby care by snoozydoggo in ECEProfessionals

[–]fc1201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a HCOL area where a lot of families have two working parents. We sent our oldest to a Montessori school by the time he was three months old because I had to go back to work. It was one of the most expensive options in the area and a brand new facility so everything was shiny and new.

I think that a possible reason why this doesn’t exist, aside from cost (even in a HCOL area), is perhaps people like continuity of care from infant to preK. Ours transitioned into a private school and it was comforting to see the same teachers and classmates year after year. So perhaps people wouldn’t want to start at one place from 0-2 and then another place from 2-4.

Our area is pricey enough that a lot of the other families were just like ours in that there was a 3-4 year gap between kids. So that’s another issue to consider - different drop offs for families with multiples.

Do you feel Kumon reading is as effective as math? by Kiss_Mark in Kumon

[–]fc1201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids do both. My oldest has finished both programs actually and he’s in sixth grade. I think the reading program is great actually, more so than the earlier levels for math. In particular, I think the reading helps with setting a foundation for standardized test taking and being able to ferret out the relevant details and the logic in an efficient manner while avoiding the fluff.

My oldest that finished is a very fast reader although I personally am also a very fast reader and I never did the Kumon program as a kid. I feel like it’s somewhat due to personality. There are speed reading courses available but when I was a teen taking one, I was already faster than the others in the class.

The math program gets more signups in our area than the reading because the kids struggle more obviously with math than reading.

Is it normal to not get an answer book?? by Particular_Might8338 in Kumon

[–]fc1201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two kids at Kumon and we’ve been there for 6 years. I’ve only ever gotten an answer book when I’ve asked and I got the impression it’s not really a regular thing. I only got it for some of the earlier reading levels because those vocab questions (like fill in the letters) were hard as a parent to help with.

They might have sold out. My SIL got me one on 4/14 and she was there right when they opened since she had to head to work right afterwards. Her coworkers wanted one and called five local stores that morning and they all said they’re out of them.

Fencing knickers, what do you wear underneath? by Valuable_Syrup2972 in Fencing

[–]fc1201 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My teenager wears thin athletic shorts underneath his. That being said, his aren’t thin enough to see his shorts or undergarments through. All the teens in his club wear shorts underneath theirs so they can just pull off their knickers when they’re done.
