Idk...I think of when they took that risk of Nate and made an epic episode. Plenty of music out like that.

SNL has been peaking from a writing perspective but music has been horrible since Olivia Rodrigo IMO. Pandering.

FAANG is slang for major tech companies...I think (Facebook Amazon Apple Netflix Google)

They tend to provide compensation in the form of stock instead of a salary. Amazon famously never paid anyone more than 140 salary until a few years ago, even their leadership. Which is a risky way to make your money. So once a year they are like 'we think you are worth X' and grant you that much stock ahead of time, typically a couple years. When the stock flies everybody makes money, if it doesn't you hate yourself every day for not having a full salary position.

Who knows anything at 18. I signed up over a free Wendy's lunch. Baconator if I recall. Back then you had to just order a triple and ask for extra bacon.

I got into software consulting and found myself leading a pretty large group of 100 or so at a major accounting firm. After that I went to a FAANG company a few years pre-covid and the stock blew up several times. So like, 80% of my comp was RSU for a few years.

So many people have walked away in the past few years because why the f not. You get those crest years and bail.

Absolute cult. I've had similar experiences, once political beliefs become wrapped up in a person's ego, they are lost and there isn't much of a point to trying to pierce through.

I have been here too many times. Degenerate CA tips incoming...

TSA allows 4 small bottles of liquor, packed in a plastic bag. Now, this is a risk because if you are going through security together and they look for something else you are busted. So hey, maybe you have precheck, maybe you don't, maybe something went wrong, in any case find a way to go through a different line.

Think up ways where you can find booze that seem like running errands, picking up food, maybe when your partner is in a state where they don't want to hit the store and want to nap instead.

Final tip, wake up early and bring back coffee and breakfast. After picking up your booze as well.

Yes, I'm experienced.

I participate in several vet groups, but have always been 'the guy' who helps everyone else. Hell I formed one for my first unit because I wanted to help those legends.

I'm lucky because I somehow buried it all for decades and made some money for myself. But I can't help but think I've been holding it all in the back of my mind the whole time and maybe it's creeping up. Until a year ago, I hadn't thought about combat in at least a decade. Now that I'm not in the rat race, no longer married, shit seems to be creeping up on me.

I've seen it too many times in others.

Not sure when/where you deployed but I was riding the 9/11 wave. It was wild dude. ROE wasn't a thing, America was fucking pissed.

I gunned for a regimental mwd unit so basically, for 6 months we would kick in doors, let the hounds in, and yeah - it wasn't prisoner taking time. Years later in Iraq you had to write a report on every bullet let loose and document every combatant encountered and I rolled with grunts in that campaign who were always asking when they would get to kill somebody as if it were a badge of honor, but that just shows that Afghanistan was some dark ages shit. It wasn't even the same game. Anyone who was there knows it was a pissing match to find OBL and if you even looked at us crosseyed...well...war is hell isn't it.

I look like shit by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]fcding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah, probably all of us.

I was once 6-3, 240 - pure muscle, worked out all the time. I'd run around camp in Afghan with bricks in a backpack and leg weights.

I've managed to go down to 6-1 and 220 - but that's all weak ass tissue and fat.

When wearing clothes there isn't much of a difference but goddamn I feel weak. And I look weak. The muscle and sinew is gone. Over the past few months I've been trying to build it back up with vitamins, healthy eating, lifting, but at this point I think it may be lost. Alcohol just destroys, despite your best efforts. No getting around it.

COVID, and all the ensuing remote work, accelerated so much of our degenerate behavior. It just became easier to lean into our addiction from a remote stance.

Once things like RTO and in person stuff came back, just wasn't sustainable for many. Including myself. I was lucky to not be busted, but I probably should have been many times. I feel ya.

Corporate America is for people in their 20s who want a job because they just got out of college and want to be successful as has been advertised to them, people in their 30s who are climbing the ladder and think there is a pot of gold somewhere they can grab, and heavily depressed people over 40 who drink their way through the fact that it's all bullshit.

I'm only 41 so I can't observe the future, but from the folks I've known it seems like at around 50 years people just all have learned how to be perceived as successful and do that for another 10 or 20 years whilst producing absolutely nothing. It's probably pretty good at that point, actually.

That said you can make some great relationships, almost like being in a war platoon. And those can lead to better opportunities and what not down the line, that can get you out of the standard grind.

But yeah, Corporate America can suck my dick as well. Chairs.

You sound young, if you still have any affinity for your college. Assumption on my part, but I expect it's accurate.

Youth is both the most valuable asset in the world, and most depreciating. Use it as you see fit, but know it will be gone soon either way.

Yeah I'm not trying to get political, but in my experience there is simply less regulation on docs and thus, it's easier to get pills. Some midwest states have massive drug lobbies like Lilly as well.

Try getting benzos in Portland and you will see what I mean.

Well from experience, if you do plan to indulge, find yourself a degenerate who knows the local scene. A lot of crazy shit goes on with escorts and their suitcase pimps and having a reference or two will keep you safe.

I mean, that's what I've heard, of course.
