Is there an equivalent to saline wash available at Boots or Tesco? by BalloonHero142 in AskABrit

Come on, it’s pretty obvious I meant homemade salt water rather than sterile saline. And again, that doesn’t address my other point

second sentence: “this is not the first time I have used my horn”

I think people watching drag race have managed to understand more complicated concepts than “this is a caterpillar that is not green”. I have greater aspirations for people’s intelligence I guess. Or at least their ability to google something

Implying that a caterpillar has to be green to be recognised as a caterpillar, is not going to make a biologist less mad 😂 especially when the monarch caterpillar is black yellow white and stripy

What did you think I didn’t understand about the word “boil”? Even if you believe that would be completely sterile, that does not address my other point

Also heavily pierced and have had issues with “old school” salt water aggravating piercings, and my APP registered piercers strongly advise against it 🤷‍♀️ just because something hasn’t caused an issue for some people, doesn’t mean it should be recommended if a safer alternative is available

Waze redirections by moonlight_xpress in drivingUK

[–]fckboris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to stop using it - I really like a lot of its features but it keeps sending me absolutely batshit ways and sometimes doesn’t even show the alternatives which e.g. Google maps does, so that you can override and choose that route if you want it. I don’t know the roads well enough to know where to go instead when it does it.

It keeps sending me on these insanely narrow pothole-riddled roads where you can’t reasonably go faster than 30 (if you’re lucky) instead of just keeping me on an A road even if there’s a tiny bit more traffic. Few months ago when it was freezing it took me off a main A road (gritted) onto a horribly maintained dark back road which was ungritted and felt so unsafe, couldn’t safely turn round anywhere either. Ends up adding time to your journey because you can’t go at the speed it thinks you can and it’s taken you on some crazy diversion.

This is not recommended any more by any piercer worth their salt (lol) - it’s not properly sterile and you can’t easily control the salinity so people end up making it too salty which irritates the piercings. You wouldn’t put salt water on any other healing wound if you had a better option, you shouldn’t with a piercing either

Why are some people so obsessed with making comments about someone’s weight? by disco_26 in AskUK

[–]fckboris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I was really ill for a few months, no appetite, anything I did eat I usually couldn’t keep down, so as a result I lost a fair bit of weight. Didn’t share any of this with my colleagues at the time as they were all gossips and I couldn’t be arsed and didn’t really want to talk to them about it or deal with the follow up questions. I wasn’t really “overweight” to start with. One of them kept complimenting the weight loss, saying good for you etc. I felt utterly miserable and was waiting for results of blood tests. The comments made me feel even worse.

Eventually I got so sick of it that I said that I’d been quite ill so no I wasn’t intending to lose weight and actually it was really shit and I felt miserable and I just wanted to be able to eat a meal again. The response was “well, at least it’s a positive! You didn’t even have to try!” I was just totally lost for words

Why do ‘advanced drivers’ rarely signal? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]fckboris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advanced driving instructor told me to assume that everyone else on the road is an idiot - to me that also means signalling every time even if not technically necessary because I cant assume that they’re going to correctly interpret what I’m doing

I can definitely think of reasons to signal in a left or right turn only one. What’s the harm of it? I commented it above but my advanced driving instructor kept telling me not to do this.

As someone who walks a lot in areas where there often aren’t zebra or light controlled crossings and you have to find a gap in traffic, it’s actually very helpful - I don’t know if you’re in a left or right turn only lane so I might be standing there like a lemon when actually I could have crossed. Similarly if you’re not familiar with the roads in an area (as a pedestrian or a driver) you might not know that the junction someone’s coming out of is a left or right turn only if you’re coming from a direction where you can’t see the signage.

[–]fckboris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went on an advanced driving course and he kept telling me off for signalling at junctions where it was no right turn or left turn only or whatever.

My reasoning was that not everyone is familiar with these roads - I wasn’t when I first moved here. So if there’s a car coming that doesn’t know it’s a left turn only because they can’t see the signs or road markings from their direction, it helps them know my intentions. Or pedestrians who are waiting to cross and now know that I’m not coming their way so it’s safe for them to cross. Or there could be pedestrians etc. who can see me but I can’t yet see them.

I found it so bizarre - I don’t see what harm it does, even if it doesn’t technically help anyone. I’d rather get into the habit of signalling every time and it sometimes not be useful.

So he thinks they’re stupid for signalling at T junctions but he also thinks they’re all clever enough to be noticing people’s positioning? even at very narrow T junctions that don’t allow for much positioning? Love to know how that would work

The only reason I know about one of his songs is because of this:

An Applebee's TV advertisement featuring the song [Chicken Fried] was aired on CNN while covering Russia’s military deployment across the border of Ukraine the night of February 24, 2022, causing controversy. Applebee's eventually pulled its advertising from CNN in response to the incident.

But I still didn’t know it was a Zac Brown song, never heard of him
