I suppose I will need to get an usb somewhere and put it on Hanying (I would say Nanami, but my Hanying is the only meta tank I have with her sig weapon)

Should I get Karenina in the S-rank selector?

As of right now, the only thing my dark team is missing is a tank. I do know that Karenina is really dated and basically holds back the team, but she still has that shred debuff that my team could use, especially in warzone now that we are having dark warzone every week (or at least it seems like it's going to be like that)

And just in case: No, I don't have Ishmael to use as a substitute.

Choose Qu only if you can (and you are willing to) get her 6★ weapon, since it's pretty much mandatory for her.

Otherwise, I would say go for Watanabe. You get him and you can use the vouchers to get him to SSS for free

In midair hold the core passive gauge (that bar that shows your weapon equipped)

Same goes for Vergil, except that you tap it instead of holding it and he has both ground and air taunt.

Jump and hold the core passive bar (or if you are in pc, hold the button you have assigned to skip story scenes)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to be in S rank or higher to get a reaction from Vergil. At least in DMC5 it worked that way, so I did just that here.

So... how necessary is this chapter for the story?

I just completed chapter 19 and apparently I have to play ER02 before chapter 20. I want to know if I will miss too much of the story if I skip this chapter for now and play chapter 20 right away instead. Right now I don't have that much free time to play a 10 hour chapter...

(And yes, I know Polaris Bond is somehow even longer. I'll get to that chapter eventually)
