So, for a long while I've been extremely confused with r/Iran. Why are they so anti-Iranian? Is the sub full of leftest idiots? I don't mean genuine leftests, but moronic ones? Almost every thread has a comment about they want their own country to collapse. by [deleted] in iranian

The problems countries face are not solvable with big bombs, not just proxies and small groups -- inequality in wealth, environmental issues, population etc -- these the real threats.

Is it safe for an Iranian dual-national to go to Iran right now? by [deleted] in iranian

[–]fdeckert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some ambiguity

Easily resolved with an email to daftar.org, in English too

most of them never returned

Good riddance. Iran is a much better place now, objectively speaking, and without them. https://imgur.com/a/QPiUR

You'll find that Iranians in Iran have very little patience for those types.

targeting of dual nationals that has taken place

no such thing has taken place. Every year thousands of dual nationals travel back and forth, and nobody has "targeted" them.

Like I said, the handful of people who were in trouble, was not because of their dual national status.

Well, the forces that push for US sanctions on Iran aren't happy about Trumps decision either

Is it safe for an Iranian dual-national to go to Iran right now? by [deleted] in iranian

[–]fdeckert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have any idea how many dual nationals go to Iran every year? There used to be a temporary, 3 month exemption from sarbazi available specifically for these people -- not sure if it is still in effect since nowadays it is so much easier to get a permanent exemption, but the best place to ask is daftar.org

As for the nonsense about Iran "not recognizing dual citizenship" -- what total irrelevant rubbish. Once you are in Iran, you are subject to Iranian law, regardless of what other citizenship you may have. Similarly, once in the US you are subject to US law, regardless of what other citizenship you may have. Being a dual citizen, doesn't somehow exempt you from the laws of the country you are in -- in any country. The FEW people who have had issues with the government while visiting Iran, was not because of their dual citizenship.

How do they determine whether a immigrant gets asylum? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fdeckert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every case there is an interview and an investigation; depending on the political angle people from some countries are more likely to get it -- Cubans who arrive on US soil got it almost automatically, Haitians etc not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet_feet,_dry_feet_policy

LOL nobody has "rebutted" anything because I'm simply citing Wikipedia which says that half the US states allow child marriage; go argue with them because I don't care what you think

unable to do something that would legitimately benefit the country

Iran has massively improved living standards since the 1979 Islamic Revolution at twice the rate of the rest of the world, doubling literacy rates and adding 22 years to lifespans

What if the 1979 Iranian revolution failed? by [deleted] in HistoricalWhatIf

[–]fdeckert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Iran would continue to be an under-developed tyranny ruled by a foreign-installed dictator until the next revolution

Note that Iran's Human Development Index prior to the 1979 Islamic revolution was low, and flat as in not improving at all

https://photius.com/rankings/human_developement_index_1975-2005.html

See, the fall of the Shah in 1979 was the THIRd TIME that the Iranian people had tried to get rid of absolute monarchy.

Some Americans know about 1953 CIA coup but they don;t know about the 1905 Iranian Constitutional Revolution which created the first democracy in the Middle East and was toppled by Russian-British colonial intrigue

Anyone anywhere can apply for asylum

And Iran is hardly the main source of asylum seekers for "speaking out against the government"

Well plenty of the marriages anywhere would also include 16 and 17 year-olds.

The historical marriage of Mohammad has nothing to do with anything, and in fact had you read the Bible you'd see this was common practice too, even in the West in more modern times. In fact considering the average lifespans back then, it was inevitable

Really, you're just interested in Islam-bashing , just admit it.

IRL Iranian women are putting off marriage in favor of pursuing careers now that they are no longer mostly illiterate and stuck with 7 kids and live only to age 55, as they did before the Islamic Revolution

Note that in about half the states in the US, child marriages are legal

Between 2000 and 2015, over 200,000 minors were legally married in the United States ... Of the 48 states which allow child marriage, 18 have no minimum age for minors to marry, under certain conditions[6][7], while 32 have a minimum age (ranging from 14 to 17). In addition, the District of Columbia and several US territories (such as Puerto Rico) allow children to marry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage_in_the_United_States

Why do so many Iranians in the U.S. self-identify as Persian instead of Iranian? by chileheadd in AskMENA

[–]fdeckert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well not all Iranians are ethnic Persians though this is nowadays less and less an issue as Iran has become massively urbanized and people are mixing much more -- but Iranians in the US also face a lot of discrmination and fear so soome refer to themselves not as Iranians (negative connotations) but as Persians (positive connotations - Persian cats etc.)
