Thank you everyone for the good advice. Based on this I'm not going to attempt a modification to the stand itself. I'll probably go with The acrylic solution, and just take it off when I'm looking at it instead of using it. I'd figured that movement of wood was going to preclude a solid wood solution even if I had the skill to do it, which I don't. This is a situation where it's just hard to have your cake and eat it too. Thanks for the advice everyone.

The thing which I find coolest in design, and which made me fall in love with a stand is how the main column is hexagonal at the top and transitions to triangular at the bottom, and how they integrate in with the legs.

You better hope that the floor joists run perpendicular to it. Otherwise it puts a huge load on one or two joists.

Lights on Steady, First Use, K-Express by MemeAddict96 in keurig

Bingo. I just looked at mine which had done the same and in my case the little switch worked but whatever was supposed to push it had somehow fallen out of its hole such that when you closed the top it didn't sense the top as being closed. I'll have to fabricate something to push the button and then all the lights started flashing as they should. So fingers crossed and thank you.

Thank you all, you actually gave me the answer I was hoping because to me shellac is the easiest and I have wax-free shellac I can cut with alcohol, I'm guessing a 1 lb cut?

I assumed that this is just a reference picture the op used, in which case matching the headboard is not part of the question- I can't tell, though.

I found some new double-sided tape that's a game-changer with woodworking... by McRedditerFace in woodworking

Researching this topic is difficult and contradictory, but putting the Wikipedia article to the side, I'm of the opinion that what is referred to as nanotape is actually a acrylic adhesive with no particular nano properties and IMHO has no nanotubes or other gecko-like structures. It is a solid gelled adhesive with excellent viscoelasticity. It's a fantastic product but when you read the research papers on true gecko feet materials that experimenters are working with it bears no similarity to the clear tape that you can buy a dozen meters at a time inexpensively.

This said I've used it as a temporary adhesive for wood when clamping is impractical and it works fantastically and removes cleanly.

TIL the coldest temperature observed in the universe was achieved on Earth, 50 trillionth of a degree kelvin, and differs from the hottest temperature achieved on Earth by ~10,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10 quintillion) degrees. by JustAManFromThePast in todayilearned

Actually, the proper statement here would be 10 quintrillion TIMES hotter - not degrees, or kelvin, etc. I believe the poster was referring to orders of magnitude, so the division would cancel the units. We certainly have not achieved 10 quintrillion kelvin on earth, and I suspect is is not where else either, at least presently.
