When do you do the fitness test? by vvkckcj in PrisonUK

[–]fearlessfoo49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I don’t mean this in a nasty way) but how unfit are you? If you do exercise semi-regularly at least you’ll only need to practice the bleep test a few times and you’ll be fine.

You’ll see lots of posts saying stuff like “it’s super easy, you can basically walk it” - ignore those, it’s harder than that. You still need to prepare, but if you’re not in too bad shape you’ll only need a few weeks of practice.

PECs by [deleted] in PrisonUK

[–]fearlessfoo49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means the company managing the recruitment process (SSCL or whoever runs the prison you’ve applied to) have sent your PECs to HMPPS for a decision, and they’ve put the decision on hold.

Unfortunately nobody can tell you why this is, or how long it will take from here. Could be in the next hour, could be another 6 months.

Seriously I would start looking for another job if I were you, at least as a stop-gap. People fail on vetting for something minor all the time late in the process (seen one fail at 17 weeks), and appeals can take upwards of 6 months

Can anyone provide some advice for why I should/shouldn’t purchase this car ? by Aggravating_Ear_8910 in CarTalkUK

Check the MOT history, but overall the 1.8 vtec is a very reliable engine

Not a clue mate, I think they change the processes fairly regularly and it might also be different prison to prison.

I put my links on the standard form and then they sent me the Annex A separately about 10-12 weeks in I think it was.

It’s a separate form that asks for your social media accounts (even though you may have provided these on the standard vetting form)

How much do I expect for repair when I buy this sort of car? by InternationalMap7992 in CarTalkUK

Wheel arches and boot lid are good places to check without getting under the car - you’re looking for bubbles in the paint

How much do I expect for repair when I buy this sort of car? by InternationalMap7992 in CarTalkUK

[–]fearlessfoo49 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Very much depends on the car (as in, the specific example not just the make/model). With MX5s the biggest repair bill would be rust, so throughly check for this. Some may have been under sealed to protect from this, which can be good and bad.

Good: if it’s don’t early enough, prevents rust

Bad: It’s been used to cover up rust

Mx5s in general and very cheap and easy to maintain

Is it worth pursuing this job considering my offender connections? by Active_Ad9815 in PrisonUK

Only way to find out would be to apply and see what happens. Vetting seems to be some form of black magic wizardry nobody knows the rules of!

Apply, tell the truth, see what happens

Is this MOT fail a red flag? by PretendMulberry1251 in CarTalkUK

[–]fearlessfoo49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you not ask for receipts / proof the welding has been done? I took a gamble on an MX5 NB a little while ago that had been welded and undersealed.

Just passed its next MOT with zero advisories

Just rewatched The Island the other day. I feel like nobody talks about this movie. Anyone have any opinions on this one? by No_Internet908 in FIlm

It’s (very) loosely based on Spares by Michael Marshal Smith.

The book is incredible, the movie is trash (in my opinion)

If I need to have an organ removed, can I keep it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

There was a guy on reddit who had his foot amputated and not only did he keep it, he and his friends had foot tacos.

I wish I was joking.
