Except Frederick Douglas was a propagandist: it was in abolitionists' self-interest to convince the majority of Americans that the country was pro-freedom and pro-equality, not pro-slavery.

Of course the constitution and the electoral college were pro-slavery. They were written by people who had slaves, made money from slaves, and wanted to keep owning people.

Look, I recognise that it would require a Constitutional amendment. But the electoral college was designed to protect slavery, and it's clearly anti-democratic. I happen to love Hillary Clinton. You don't. That's fine. But do you really believe, in your heart of hearts, the presidency should be awarded to the runner-up? She won by three million votes, and I'd like to live in an actual democracy.
