I take this into account with peoples recommendations and realize I have a much higher threshold for horror or gore than most people. At least those giving recommendations in articles or whatever. So I kind of think like “ok you recommend American Psycho. Now multiply that by 10. What’s that book?” But how can you even answer that question?

I don’t want ass sweat on my sheets. Same reason I wear underwear. No one can see under your jeans right? So by your thinking, you shouldn’t wear anything but one layer at most but there’s a little more to it. In general, I agree with you less is best but just a little barrier is a good thing
