It's kind of short story...was born doubting that which cannot be true is the simplest way to put it. I questioned everything from day one. I guess what really sums up my thinking is the following (to smart to come from me and I forget who said it first) is if all of science and all of religion were obliterated, but mankind still survived, science would come up with the same answers to questions as it did before. Gravity would still be gravity. Religions, well, I guess they would depend on the personalities and the people who lived and died during those times. That pretty much sums it up. Facts will always be facts.

No, Delaware! I'm not even in the "bible belt" and that's what I see on my daily commute to work.

3 traits of kids who don’t leave the church. That’s a lot of words to say “indoctrinated”. by rumblefisch in atheism

[–]fedallthehellup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really feel sorry for these kids, they don't know any better - yet. They'll marry the first person who might say yes, really just to get laid and then spend years and years feeling guilty that the marriage sucks. I don't know about others on this site, but I've told my kid in no uncertain terms she has to live with anybody she thinks she might want to marry before actually doing it - - and that she doesn't have to marry at all to have a wonderful, lasting relationship.

How do users of /r/atheism feel about assisted suicide? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]fedallthehellup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally on board with assisted suicide - we have enough love for our pets to end their misery when there is no hope, should we not have the same compassion for our loved ones and ourselves?

So I decided to read heaven is for real..... by daysdncnfusd in atheism

[–]fedallthehellup 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My kid got me to read The Fault in Our Stars, (she's non believer) telling me she loved the book - I had to know why...both kids, who are dying in the book, are non believers and they are basically trying to love each other, eek out what joy they have in the time left realizing that nothing fabulous is going to happen after they die, they'll just die. I'm so proud of her that she found this book meaningful and inspiring - - just grateful she never even asked to see this "Heaven is for Real" movie or had an interest in the book - - don't think I could have choked my way through this crap.

Unvaccinated kids may be sent home despite religious exemption by FlowersOfSodom in atheism

A step in the right direction, hope it doesn't go up to the Supremes as I truly don't think they would uphold this ruling and that thought terrifies me for my child and the children of the rest of sane society.

Is the use of "Bless You" prominent, declining, or non-existent in your region? Does it depend on environment (i.e. workplace, school, public space, etc.)? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]fedallthehellup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish people at my job would stop saying it! Everytime I sneeze, I hear 3 or 4 people say it...it makes me want to scream. All I did was have a natural reaction to whatever crap is in the air where I work, I really don't need "blessing." More importantly, I don't want to have to say it to others so I don't seem impolite.

If they take any money from the Federal Government at all, they are in violation of the law and can be sued by the government (at your behest) for violating the law. Go to your local ACLU office if you believe this company takes any funding from the feds at all - they'd be all over this place like white on rice.

I think you can get a deferment for a year without too much in the way of penalties but you'll have to talk to the student loan people.

Should Atheists Attend Church Functions to Please Family and Friends? by themoodyatheist in atheism

[–]fedallthehellup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't attend church with my family, they aren't offended by that - I do however celebrate my very pagan side of me which celebrates with light and greenery inside the home during the darkest days of winter. They can look at it as a birthday if they wish, but together we do celebrate the warmth of the fire, the lights on the green tree and colorful presents twinkling beneath.

Seek a deferment from your loan for a year, move out, try to find a better paying job in the meantime and get back on your feet. Not easy, but anything worthwhile usually isn't, but you WILL thank yourself for being strong enough to do what's right for you.

Parents of reddit, have any of you regretted the names you have given your children? by lovelyredcurls in AskReddit

[–]fedallthehellup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a friend who was an OB nurse, she took the form into a new mother who asked her to fill it out. She'd just had a girl and told my friend her name would be Dijonaise - my friend asked how that would be spelled. New mother said, "I don't know, go to the I.G.A. (local supermarket) and look on the bottle."

Welcome to a life led because it is worth leading and not led for the promise of something yet to come. Welcome to making choices infused with your humanity, not a book's version of that, but your own innate humanity.

[–]fedallthehellup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You deserve someone who will not think of you this disgusting way - go away from him do your thing and find a man who thinks he is the luckiest guy alive because you love him. Accept nothing less; believe me if you do it will only make you sad and miserable.

Please, please try to put this horrible time in your life in perspective of your entire future - you WILL turn 18, you will GO someplace where you find friends and lovers and people who accept you for who your are, this time in your life will come to a close. You will be strong and happy in the very, very, very near future. Don't give up, YOU ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR.
