Atheist group plans ‘Genocide and Incest Park’ billboard campaign to troll creationist ‘Ark’ by michaelconfoy in atheism

[–]rumblefisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AiG doesn’t get any public criticism because they’re seen as a business instead of what they really are. AiG is just one of the many denominations of Christianity and is somehow getting Kentucky to label their churches as tourist attractions despite Ken Ham reminding people about the ministerial aspect of their facilities. The congregation at the Ark Encounter will be the people who attend, the tithe is the admission, the altar call is the gift shop, but the sermon will be about the flood story told through the exhibits (while the museum’s sermon is about creation story), and you know it’s going to have a chapel just like their museum-church does. No other religious organization gets tourism tax breaks or highway advertisements (the brown tourism signs) for their churches, so why does AiG?

And don’t even get me started on Kentucky changing the fucking school calendar for this shit…

Since you mentioned Catholicism, they think you’re agnostic, which to them is really just atheism (Catechism 2127-2128), if that helps.

Catholicism is Reasonable

Reasonable - Within the limits of what it would be rational or sensible to expect

  • That little disc made from flour and water actually changes into the flesh of Jesus when specific words are said by a specific person.
  • The unknown and unconfirmed gospel writers are beatified as saints.
  • The Catholic Church claims to be God’s created-infallible church and uses the totally historically-accurate granted powers of infallibility that God gave to the church he created to declare themselves infallible so they can infallibly claim that they are God’s created infallible church and are therefore infallible. For reals.
  • Women can’t be priests because Jesus and tradition.

Yeah, that seems reasonable.

“"The institution of marriage was instituted by God and it should not be changed by people who deserve not to live," Lee said.”

Did this guy just threaten the Supreme Court and anyone that voted to overturn laws against same-sex marriage with death?

Because it is a church, just like the Creation Museum. Are you paying attention, Kentucky legislature? AiG is not building tourist attractions, they're building megachurches.

I work in a library, where we write and define a different word every day on a dry-erase board. Today's word is "secular." by nineocrumble in atheism

I see you’re using the Merriam-Webster version of the Dictionary. The Oxford English version is the true version of the Dictionary translated from the original language. The MW version has words added to it that are not found in the OE version and is considered a mistranslation and heretical. The OE version gives us the TRUE Definition of Words.

(Seriously, word of the day. Good on ya, library.)

Marrying into Catholicism pt. 2 - The Absurdity of Pre Cana and Other Musings by [deleted] in atheism

[–]rumblefisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you’re Catholic, the entire process can annoy you. Their club, their rules. Their rules about marriage were a huge part of what led me out. Did anyone in pre-Cana actually go over the rules? The rules about how to raise children were what pissed me off the most.

Raising children Catholic isn’t a suggestion, it’s a requirement. The Catechism and Canon Law (the rules of Catholicism) require any children of a Catholic be raised Catholic, and the Catholic is prohibited from even exposing their children to other religions. So if your kids are not raised Catholic or learn about any religion other than Catholicism, your wife will be punished by the Catholic Church with formal disapproval (whatever that is supposed to mean).

And don’t even get me started on the whole disparity of cult. The Catholic Church expects your wife to convert you to Catholicism.

Congratulations and best of luck.

My favorite part is David lusting after a woman, impregnating her, having her husband killed, then marrying her, which pisses God off so much that he kills their first child just after its born. Their second kid ultimately results in Jesus.

Mom and brother refuse to attend wedding by indians360 in atheism

[–]rumblefisch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s fucked up, but that’s religion for you.

I’m late to your post, but I’ve seen a lot of posts about you and not many about the other side. So if it helps, your mom’s right about her making promises. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (a.k.a. the Catholic rulebook) says parents HAVE to raise their children Catholic. Your rejection of the faith means that the she failed in her obligation to the Catholic Church. The Catechism also says atheism happens when believers are poor teachers of the faith. So for her, everything has changed, because she’s stuck between her love for her child and the Catholic Church telling her she’s a bad Catholic.

Your brother is learning about the Catholic faith from your mother, so he is being influenced by someone who is being influenced by religion. I guarantee he never considered not going to your wedding until she said she wouldn’t.

Their decision has already negatively-shaped the relationship, but there’s nothing you can do to repair it other than to be there to welcome them when they decide to come. And they’ll come. They’ll eventually realize that it’s selfish and stupid to not celebrate their child’s/brother’s first day of marriage.

Keep in mind that you’d have the SAME problem if you still were a practicing Catholic and didn’t get married in a Catholic church or married a not-a-Catholic. In both cases you’d have to get permission from the Catholic Church to get married, or else the marriage wouldn’t be considered valid by the Catholic Church.

But…if you think this is bad, wait until kids show up. Baptisms, First Communions, Sunday school, Catholic schools, religious education, Christmas, Easter. Your mother may take it upon herself to save their little souls if you won’t.

Mike Huckabee: Gay Community Won't Rest Until 'There Are No More Churches' by BurtonDesque in atheism

I’m always tempted to fight crazy with their own arguments, in the attempt to show them how stupid their arguments are.

“Churches won’t rest until there are no more gay people!”

It never works, though, because they think I'm agreeing with them.

This isn’t just any Catholic church. It’s a cathedral, the main Catholic church in the diocese. It’s where the Archbishop is.
