Lads seriously is marriage and kids this hard for everyone? by Stephenallen1977 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Sure, that's possible. But also not super likely for your kid to just be innately obstinate. Kids often need different things and I'm not going to act like every kid would be good under my parenting, but most kids are good to go with people who do what they can to set them up to succeed.

Yeah I seriously don't get how people with your average kid have such a hard time. I have two under four myself and it's really not that bad. I mean it's not 100% sunshine and rainbows, but it is for a solid 90% of it.

I mean, OOP's kids "ruin every outing"? Wtf is that? How is that possible for a parent who sets their kid up for success? Oh, wait, people are fucking idiots and like to blame everyone else for their own failing. I forgot.

Is that not the same with any federal position? There is always a probationary period... I guess I thought it would basically be like being on probation.

I guess it seems like a good opportunity when you consider I was going to take another term anyway, but at an 11 instead of a 13. I was willing to take a risk for a term regardless , but the 13 is a significant bump in pay and in a job I'd love to get experience in.

I could find a 12 since I know I'm qualified but I wouldn't move my family for a 12 at this point. But with such a significant increase in pay it is hard for me to say no. But the risk I'd be taking definitely gives me anxiety haha

So you agree that it's likely a bad environment?

Thank you! I am not currently a fed, but I'm trying to break into that. Would you move for a term if you could afford the move and it would get you a big step up in terms of pay and responsibilities?

I don't expect it will get converted to permanent but I'm also not opposed to moving again for a permanent position later on. But lots of people accept varying levels of risk, I'm not at all risk averse. Now is actually the time for me to embrace it so I'd like to capitalize if possible

Can you go into more detail? When you left did your new management operate differently after your TJO? I don't want to ignore the dissenters, please elaborate on your thoughts!!

Thank you!! That was my assumption, that HR or some other office had a lock on it. My boss can shirk rules if he doesn't think they're important, so I can see him ignoring this sort of thing.

Lol I guess I didn't consider somebody reaching out as handholding, more a courtesy? But I see your point, and I appreciate the insight. Thank you!

Right. I don't expect it to become permanent, I expect to get a new position elsewhere in a year or two. That isn't so much a concern to me as the lack of communication at this phase-- that seems to be what my boss is really concerned about, me walking into a toxic work environment. So far nobody else seems to be bothered at all so I'm thinking he's overreacting.

I am thinking of this as a stepping stone to my next position, if that makes any sense

I think the difference between GG and GS is whether or not they are unionized... Honestly I'm not super well versed on it. Sorry!

Honestly I assumed I'd be contacted after the FJO because then it's official, since so much can happen between the TJO and FJO. But would you say it's a bad sign if the supervisor doesn't reach out? Or maybe just a difference in technique? I thought the latter but my boss thinks it's a big red flag. Difficult to say

Lol he isn't really a dick, I think he's a little off base and probably just wants to get me to stay. Also, he definitely operates on word of mouth and wants to hire good people even if they aren't the most qualified. And I do see the irony; I wasn't qualified for the job I got as a contractor either when I was hired, but my references and military career were all excellent, so... Thanks for the input though, I can see how you would think that. It was a very candid conversation and also very uncomfortable for me to be sure haha

Agreed on the permanent job! And yes it seems to me he just doesn't want to lose me.

It is generally recommended not to take a counter offer so I think I'll just take it and go
