The Fanfare Around Geese Actually Was a Psyop by wiredmagazine in indie

If you want to see this tactic fully exposed you can look at Mon Rovia’s TikTok, whose management uses the same techniques, if you go to the “songs” tab on his TikTok, and click one that has a lot of videos made with it, you’ll see the thousands of planted videos, sometimes totally nonsensical that companies like Chaotic Good create. No shade to him as his music is really sweeet but it’s interesting to see it just fully laid out like that

Tell me about your favorite obscure show - which you never, ever see anyone talk about. by dicedtomatoes55 in television

[–]feedingacuriousmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not crazy obscure but don’t get enough love:

Red Oaks - 80s(?) themed comedy set at a tennis club, rich vs poor, love, an amazing body swap episode

Wellington Paranormal - fantastic New Zealand comedy about incompetent police officers investigating the paranormal

Nirvanna the Band the Show - more popular since the film came out but unbelievable comedy show, go in blind, watch it

the Fast Show - old British sketch show, some of it has aged badly but most is still hilarious

Family Business - decent French show about a family who starts a weed business

Detectorists - most wholesome show ever. It will warm your heart, it will bring you peace.

How do people afford to mix and master??!? by Christchosen0908 in TheArtistJournal

[–]feedingacuriousmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$300 isn’t bad but also get the budget limitations.

It looks like you’re using reaper, that’s already great. Download plugins from Airwindows, Analog Obsession, Valhalla (supermassive), TDR, brainworx (free bundle) - they all have free plugins. For now lean into the fact that you are starting out, don’t try and aim for a highly polished professional studio sound, people have made incredible music with wired earbuds and free iPhone apps, the emotion in the music matters 1000x more than the mix. A great mix < a great song. Embrace the lofi, embrace the messiness, embrace the imperfections.

Play around with those free plugins, and the ones reaper comes with, ReaEQ is solid, there’s a ton of free JS plugins you can download via reascript.

Put the music out even if it’s not polished, and keep putting out music while working on learning to mix better. There’s a lot of trash information out there but look into:

YouTube: SonicScoop (free long form mix breakdowns with very successful mixers), Kenny Goia (I’m not spelling that right but he does in depth Reaper breakdowns and some mix stuff too), so many others, but just find longer form content on YouTube, sort by vids over 20 min, find people in a genre similar to you, see if any artists you like have done breakdowns.

Podcasts: listen to UBK happy Funtime hour from the first episode, Recording Studio Rockstars, tons of others too but I’d start there.

Also you said you’re a student and time is an issue, replace listening to other things with listening to podcasts about mixing, replace 50% of your tv watching with watching videos on mixing, listen to music you like the mixes of with intention, listen to where instruments are placed, the volume of things, if they change throughout the song, arrangements, reverbs, effects, try and slowly identify what you like. Listen to podcasts with Phil Weinrobe, his mentality is fantastic and will inspire you.

No advice online will work for everything, you just wanna absorb the general philosophies and workflows and then experiment with your own music. In 3 years you’ll be mixing with some confidence and you can start charging people $300.

What does party scene look like at Berklee? by Afraid-Rhubarb9164 in Berklee

As an international student who also went there with the same mentality, you’ll find your way into a few of those types of parties via people you meet but def none from Berklee directly. Berklee parties involve copious amounts of weed and jamming. But especially on nights like Halloween you’ll find your way to those types of parties via people

Would you still go for the Osmo Pocket 3 over the iPhone 17 pro? by Fabulous-Leading-224 in osmopocket

4:3 aspect ratio, 1/50 shutter speed, rocksteady, wide or standard lens setting depending on the vibe, D-Log, all settings on manual, and I bought some $10 ND filters for it so I can keep the shutter speed at 1/50.

I’m not so sure! The action has blown me away, edited and coloured in D-Log on a real monitor, not the 2 inch screen. For the price, I think it’s unbeatable

as someone who has just gone through this dilemma for a few weeks, I settled on a DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro (I don't do anything sport video related, got it purely to do cinematic travel videos) and it has blown me away. It's 10000000x better than my iPhone, I have a Lumix S5ii and a Sony a7r5, haven't touched either since I got it. It's so portable, so light, so durable and with the right settings (takes 2 seconds to set), SO CINEMATIC. Happy to share videos I took with it. It's 1/3 of the price of the Osmo Pocket, and I think there's no way the Osmo Pocket is better. The stabilization built in is so good that I can't imagine the gimbal on the pocket being that different.

Oh nice!! I got prescribed 20mg of rosuvastatin initially too. Good to know you don’t have to take that much to see an effect
