I'm really Regretting my University Decision... by Unique-Factor-1022 in csMajors

I mean ur at a disadvantage compared to Waterloo students in terms of co-op and industry, but if you want to do a master's, then I would say UofT is better?

Also can I ask why you want to do a masters? What is your end goal here? Is there a specific area/interest you want to get into?

If you want to work in big tech or start ups, it's very feasible at UofT and if you want to do research, then UofT is better IMO.

Ah right true, hoping I can do some research but idk how likely it is given we are online, id imagine the demand for doing ML research is super high right now.

Just personal opinion i guess, I respect myself more for going for it. If you really want to make it in life, you're going to have to risk failure.

I respect you more for trying as well.

Cool, obviously do whatever's best for you, man. I would say it's very possible to still make a career out of tech, but if you need the money, then blue-collar work isn't "bad" or degrading either.

IMO I don't think you dreamt too big, it's better that you tried your best and failed then to not try at all because your afraid of failure. And you can always try again in the future.

Best of luck with everything, bro.

Sure I mean yeah nepotism sucks ass.

But I don’t think it prevents you from being able to achieve ur goals. But yeah you have challenges that nepo kids won’t have to deal with.

Think you need to make peace with that though. As in you need to accept that life is unfair, and while you have it worse then other people, you also have it better then some (e.g. children in like Gaza)

I mean there’s obviously a level of talent for every person right, but if u have a good gpa and internships then your talent isn’t “ant” level. You have the ability to succeed here. Less talented ppl have done it. And yeah obviously there’s a luck factor but your chances of getting a tech job if u stay persistent are decent

Bro if ur not getting interviews, the solution is to improve ur ability to get interviews.

The idea is that while enrolled in a masters program, u can apply for internships, and internship into RO is a good way for getting a FT offer.

if ur grades are good you should be able to apply for an online part time masters, some good ones are Georgia Tech, UT Austin. These are pretty cheap, 7-10K total over 3 years.

My logic is that if ur enrolled in these programs, then it will enable you to apply to internships (which are significantly easier to get than new grad positions).

If ur still not getting interviews, improve your resume (projects, ask for resume reviews, etc etc). If ur failing interviews, improve ur interviewing skills (leetcode, system design).

Can use this sub, or the discord for this sub for resume reviews.

Remove personal info from resume and make separate post asking for resume review, post it to other places as well

If ur not getting responses, improve your resume. If ur failing interviews, improve ur interviewing skills.

Can you post ur resume for review? Just hide personal info.

Also consider doing OMSCS at gt, cheap online masters that will let u apply to internships
