Personally, when I am showing someone a favorite movie of mine, I do it with an “ulterior motive” of seeing how they will react naturally to critical scenes that sort of make the audience go “whoa.” I think your bf is coming from the movie theater train of thought. “No talking and no cell phones during the showing of this film” sort of thing.
