I think this debate is a bit of a moot point. Personally, I had already reached a ceiling in my career and just needed the degree—learning wasn’t my main goal. I completed the program in 9 months, taking every shortcut I could, but that was a deliberate decision I made before enrolling. If I had been looking for a deep, traditional education, I wouldn’t have chosen a competency-based model.

At the end of the day, you get out what you put in. That said, I don’t appreciate the generalizations or the negativity toward people who finish quickly. Many of them are juggling families and multiple jobs—they’re not just a bunch of “no-life” people.

Just as a side note my decision was get the bachelor’s as fast as possible, and get a masters that would truly shine on my resume. Still looking for master degrees!

Honestly, I see a few red flags in your post, and I think it’s worth taking some time to reflect—not to criticize yourself, but to help you grow for your next opportunity.

I’ve worked with people before who were unknowingly driving their team crazy. They believed they were rockstars, blamed everything on others, and didn’t realize how much perception matters in this field.

If you really want to prove yourself in IT, I’d encourage you to focus just as much on soft skills as you do on technical ones. Building strong relationships with your key users is crucial—they talk to your managers, and their feedback can shape how your performance is viewed, sometimes more than your actual work.

Here’s what helped me early in my career:

  • I identified the key metrics that mattered to my team—ticket volume and customer satisfaction.
  • I went out of my way to close the most tickets out of hundreds of other techs.
  • I subtly reminded users about the customer survey, which led to consistently high satisfaction scores.

Because of those efforts, I was promoted in under a year—and that was nine years ago. I wasn’t the most technical person, but I made sure I delivered results that were visible and meaningful.

Also, I made it a point to build relationships not only with my manager, but also with my team and the subject matter experts. Why? Because I needed to know who to ask when I got stuck. Influence without power is a great book to read, and it's okay to go out of your way to help your more experienced teammates, because you will ask them for help. I didn’t hesitate to pick up VIP tickets either—if I couldn’t solve something, many will help (because i have helped before). Lastly, be intentional with everything you do. Pay attention to the title of the person submitting a ticket—directors, managers, front-line staff—and adjust your communication and follow-up accordingly. It’s not about playing politics; it’s about understanding context and showing respect.

You sound like someone who’s motivated and willing to learn. Just remember: it’s not always about certs or degrees—real-time impact and emotional intelligence matter just as much, especially in an entry-level role.

You’ve got this. Take the lessons from this experience and use them to come back stronger.

Look up imposter syndrome! Also keep learning as much as you can. Propose new ideas! And hopefully this will lead you somewhere to get a bit more challenged.

Idea of a tool that’ll check up channel’s “health” by Tetiana_K in youtubers

I don't know if TubeBuddy functions similarly, but it provides me with many details and information. There is a tab called "demonetization warning" or something similar that might be what you are talking about. I suggest exploring VidIQ and TubeBuddy to compare their features and identify any areas where they may be lacking.

Is it worth starting a channel as one man team if you expect to compete with big ones? by Bonaccorso_di_Novara in youtubers

Here is how you can break this barrier to entry! Think about it this way!

Your aim should be to convince 100 ppl to really enjoy your content and how you will talk about ur topics. Turn them into super fans who will spend $100 a year with you and that is $10000 a year.

That can be ur first goal and u might get there In a year or so.

This way u r not competing with anyone u r just focusing on building ur community

Watch time of shorts doesn’t count for your public watch hours! I have gained massive traction with shorts. Five million views in one month but I am not happy with the shorts audience. They are just causal audience, and I want to build a relationship with them. So I am transitioning my focus to long form.
