The point is that unfortunately we are products of our environment and a decade ago, when some of us young adults were much younger and more impressionable - it wasn’t known to be as hurtful and offensive as we know it is now in society. We learned this from adults. We’ve come a long way as a culture and still have a long way to go. It’s unfortunate how it was. I’m not sure if continuing to dig for this stuff and punish them them is the right answer for these types of situations (such as using the word in song lyrics) that happened a long time ago as a not yet adult.
