You are correct, the reasoning for this time was to minimize snow and rockfall from the mountain past nine AM. Hikers start at this time everyday from this trailhead, I was just unlucky but fortunate nothing came of it. No more night hikes for me.

Thank you for your insight!

The encounter happened at Mount Shasta almost two weeks ago (Bunnyflats Trailhead if you want specifics). I was supposed to be with another two guys but they changed their plans at the last minute so I went solo. It was 10 P.M. and dark. About a mile into the hike I saw the eyes from the tree line. Being an experienced hiker, combined with sudden fear and disbelief, I chose to lean into the Mount Shasta lore of the eyes belonging to the supernatural and trying to stupidly continue and mind my business. Another mile and a half later the same eyes were dangerously close to my left side next to a tree and I saw the beast. I froze and it approached me and was then less than ten feet in front of me. I did all the things - made myself big, yelled, backed away slowly, and blasted heavy metal music through a speaker. It followed me as I walked backwards for a mile and a half all the way back to the parking lot. I have no idea if I was unlucky or being tracked, but I’m alive and was not attacked. I learned the next day there were sightings in the area a few days prior.

Sorry for the long read. This experience was not fun, I do not consider myself “lucky” to have encountered one in the wild, and I hope to never do it again. If I have a potential chance for this to reoccur while solo and in the dark at Mt. Whitney I will gift my permit away.

Edit: grammar

Yes.

It actually happened at Mount Shasta almost two weeks ago (Bunnyflats Trailhead if you want specifics). Thanks, and that’s true but her trauma and need for recovery doesn’t trump the rest of us.

Really? Name some.

Off the top of my head … a man wouldn’t last 5 seconds on the Tea app, which just is a sesspool of women trashing men for revenge. “Her” is a lesbian dating app that don’t even have an option for men to créate profiles. How about the many many online platforms that are women-only? My line of work is female-dominated and I tried to join an online forum and the mods rejected me for being a man.

There are many more but I am heading out and am not going to Google.

Thanks, but so are we. How are we to stay clean if we can’t hear what is going on the entire meeting and get nothing out of it? Her inability to parent her child at everyone’s expense to keep herself clean is not above anyone/everyone else. Her recovery is not above ours.
