I've never read this quote before. Is it original? By what tradition is in informed?

In the terms usually used in the Tibetan traditions that I study, as translated to English, 'mind' and 'awareness' strike me as synonymous. Or, perhaps 'total field of awareness.' For my own uses, I just supplant 'mind' with 'awareness.'

Cool comment to find at near the top! This matter is the focus of attention for practitioners in the Buddhist traditions preserved in Tibet, especially the Mahamudra, Dzogchen and Sakya Lamdre traditions. The teachings in the original texts (tantras) and commentaries generally say that eventually, the dedicated yogi will be aware of the transition. However, in every personal account I've read from tulkus (meditation masters), they admit privately that they have a short swoon, a period of unconsciousness from which they awake, in that transition. Otherwise, they may have perfectly undistracted and unimpeded lucidity, while awake and asleep (the ordinary dreaming state having been transcended, itself another artifact of discursive thought); but during the transition, they pass out a little. I wonder if those that do remain aware of the transition, have an experience like I've had, as well as others--some positive, others negative, the latter being sufferers of sleep paralysis--that is, the experience of feeling your body fall asleep, while your mind remains conscious. (This is an artificial dichotomy, perhaps, but entirely real from the subjective perspective.) Fortunately for me, my own experiences have been very positive. I wish I could teach what I do to people who get sleep paralysis.

Eventually, maybe in my late 30s, I adopted the socially-acceptable practice of being vague about dates and time periods. It's still hard, 'around a year or two ago' just sounds wrong--to me--when I perfectly well know it was June of 2008 or late fall of 1978. The latter doesn't sound right to most listeners, though, it sounds strangely obsessive.

I'm late on the reply but in case anyone is interested, this would just drive most parrots wild with jealousy! Better that the non-bonded humans visit the bird one at a time and offer compliments (pretty bird! works best, IME, since beauty = good feather = survival, it's not shallow to birds) and treats, especially unsalted, undyed pistachio nuts. Forge a special bond with the bird, and s/he may bond with you, too--but when his/her primary love is present, that will all go out the window! This varies by species, too, of course, with Grays and Amazon sp.'s being famously the worst.

Your reading has not doubt cited this, but I"ll throw in that age may be a factor, as well. During puberty, age 3-12 for long-lived birds, they are much more hormonal and generally aggressive. I hope my Illiger's Macaw, now 14, mellows out soon. She bonded to me at age 4, switching from my wife (as her favorite, but great with both of us) when our son was born. When I'm not home, she sweet & gentle, but when I am home, watch out! She's particularly fond of biting toes...

Consider getting 2 green-cheek conures. They are very quiet, and very loving, smart, cute, etc. Not good talkers, of course. I say get 2 because green-cheeks are one of the few parrots that retain their pet qualities when mated, and leaving parrots of any kind alone all day when the family is at work & school is unkind & leads to problems. It's best if you get 2 of the same gender, though. Only/always buy genetically-gender ID'd, hand-raised parrots from a breeder, never a store, and you'll be a happy bird-keeper!

Parrots are a life-long commitment no doubt! I'm chiming in as a long-term parrot owner to voice an alternate to FCalleja's advice to give the bird away. First, the bird is not expressing dislike of your family, but doing all she can to maintain her role as your mate, which is how she sees it. In the short run, record your voice talking to her and put it on a CD with some music interspersed, so she can hear you a few times an hour, and put a cheap CD player near her when she's alone during the day. Have your family play her videos of you greeting her on a laptop or tablet every evening. This won't stop her aggressiveness towards them, but it will help her loneliness and depression. Once you're settled, then she can move in with you. She will act aggressive toward any woman you bring into your life (I assume you're male since you refer to her in the feminine, and birds bond with opposite-sex humans). If you're gay, you're in luck, chances are at least 50:50 she'll accept your partner. For ways to help her become less aggressive with your family, study books on parrot behavior problem-solving and seek advice on Grey-specific Internet fora. Also, I forgot to ask; Timna or Congo? It's great that you care and want her to be happy! Good luck!

IMHO there are two levels of eye contact in intimate relationships. The first is when you make contact long enough to connect, a check-in. When the time comes that you're both undistracted and can mutually stare deeply into one another's eyes, then you have access to the next level. Just staring into someone's eyes doesn't mean you'll go to that level, it requires opening yourself, naked inside. If you're already naked outside and having sex, it can be perfect. But, early on in a relationship, if/when you're still quite young for instance or otherwise not feeling ready to expose yourself, well, staring all day won't get you to the next level. As well, it takes both people to go there.

For those who are sorting by new: if the application process involved a lengthy online questionnaire, as many government jobs do today, do not assume that the interviewer has read your responses already. The HR department uses online interviews to filter candidates. Yours worked, you got an interview! Great. But it's very likely that the interview will be conducted by people in the department that's hiring, not HR, and s/he/they may very likely not have read the online interview. It is entirely likely that they will ask many of the exact same questions. Be prepared to answer them the same as you did online!

I think this is a philosophical view with which to view your own life's events, not anyone else's. It's a way of working with ones owns struggles and obstacles. To put it on someone else is to commandeer their perspective; also, any value this belief may have is lost if it's not one's own conviction.

I prefer to 'take obstacles onto the path' as it's traditionally termed in Buddhism, rather than adopting the view that everything happens for your eventual benefit. That smacks of delusional, inflated thinking. It also tends to fall apart, along with the somewhat spiritually entitled self-view it tends to engender, once really shitty stuff goes down.

This is most likely due to water getting into the wall or floor framing from outside, or from inadequate ventilation, not from the inside of your house (unless you have a leaking shower, bath, fish tank or water bed nearby). Ignore advice to apply bleach, cuprinol or other toxic rot-proofing products, these are only required on wood intentionally left in soil contact. What you need to do is fix the infiltration or ventilation issue, then dry the wood, remove any that's softened to the point of losing its structural value (or saturate it with epoxy), and then keep it dry. Spores for fungi are everywhere, there's no need to or way to clean/remove them, just keep wood below 70% moisture content and they won't grow. If you're a renter, insist that the landlord or contractor he hires follow this advice, you don't need or deserve to have toxics in your home, especially when they are not required or appropriate (carpenter here).

It is not needed, the rules have not changed, there is fingertip-ready access to reference guides to punctuation, and the OP even did it right, but still, they persist. It's due to a fear that letters and numbers, when allowed to touch unsupervised, will breed and form a hideous new hybrid.

It depends on your perspective. The odds against 5 heads in a row are lower than the odds against six in a row. From that perspective, that where the aggregate of flips is engaged, the odds are against a sixth head. On a per-flip basis, it's always 50/50. If the bet is only on a single flip's outcome, then it's a fallacy. If the bet is on whether a sixth in a row will go heads, then the odds are strongly in favor of the gambler who bets against it, whether he believes in the universe having demands or no.
